Nice contest Shoemoney ... even though I'm not much of a fan of Paris, I just added links on my PR6 (was PR7) Hulk page for your blog entry and the image. You said: "I will make a $1,000.00 donation from my company to whatever charity the digitalpoint community choose" ... so I'd like to propose a donation to celiac disease which is something my kids have. Read more at that page, but in brief, it's an autoimmune intolerance to gluten (barley, oats, wheat, etc.) ... so beer and burgers are out ... but (corn) chips and Tequila would be OK! ;-) I would suggest making the donation to the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research. Talk is cheap, so I'm going to support that suggestion with some cold cash. If you make it into the top-5 for your contest and end up donating $1,000 for Celiac Research, I will kick in an additional $500. And just to step it up one more notch, I will donate an additional $500 if my christmas page also ranks in the top-5 for "Christmas" in Google by 12/25. I'm starting out a little farther ahead than you - current #74 in Google (nowhere in Yahoo, but #7 in MSN). And someone pointed out to me recently that I have the #1 and #7 entries for a Google IMAGE search for "christmas" - BTW, that #7 entry shows my two boys christmas morning on one of those motorized jeeps a neighbor was throwing out that I fixed. I'll leave the "Is Paris worth $2,000?" jokes to others ... but (and I hope you'll laugh with me on this), it would be frick'in hilareous to have a picture of Paris with a middle-aged bald dude on the top page of Google! ;-) P.S. I'm a bit of a Photoshop guy Shoemoney, so if you want me to fix the red eye in that picture, PM me the digital original (although I can work with that one) and a picture of what your eyes normally look iike and I can fix this up for you.
Hey, I tried posting a message on your blog but not sure if it worked or not as when the page refreshed my message was not there?
1. IamNed... very good to see you reached 4 red rep boxes 2. I'll add www.homeless.org.au to the mix for non-profits to get the $$$ reward, except if you need a tax deduction in the US. 3. in true DP fashion this is a great can of worms... how do you get images to rank for top searches???
Image ranking seems to be part image name, part alt text on the page it resides on and theme of that original page. And a bit of luck (if you desire to rank high there).
I moderate comments and only friends can post generally. I get about 200+ comments a day so I dont have time to weed through them all.
About image serps..I run a wallpaper site and from my experience Google image serps update only with a major Google update. In the mean time the serps remain the same. So I don't think it's possible to rank for "paris hilton" in image serps until 31 december.
Someone is using the wrong achor text in the coop network for this competition. The textlink says Pars Hilton but I think it should be Paris Hilton.
Images updated recently, but unfortunately, I don't see Shoe's entry enywhere in the first 5 pages ....
I've blogged this and will throw some other links and hopeful weight towards this endeavor too for a ninth hour push. Question for Shoemoney - if I can get a site ranked that's showing your page will that count? If not, will you modify your offer and still offer up something towards alek's charity?
*Cough* *Googlebomb* *Cough* No, I won't do it. But that's probably the only way to get it to rank in 2 weeks...of course it would get your site banned shortly after lol.
PM sent with the details and efforts. NOT a googlebomb - although, for a grand to alek's charity, I would have gladly purchased a disposable domain or two and done that had I thought about it early enough to make it work Hope the challenge comes to fruition. Happy Ranking. Rob aka willis
Thanx guys ... while I wish it has been more, the over $3,000 raised for UofM (plus maybe Golden Palace will get involved at the last minute on the charify eBay auction that ends in 3 hours) ain't too shabby ... and another grand for them would be awesome.
Alek - we're certainly trying dude: Here's what I've done today: Entry with links at freshdames.blogspot.com Story excerpt at sitespromoter.com Links at freshdames.com (home page and paris-hilton.html) Let's hope a ninth inning stretch will pay off - if not, maybe shoemoney will appreciate the efforts and kick in some for the charity anyway. Just nine days left - show your support and link to Paris Hilton now please.
Cool - thanx. BTW, the charity eBay auction just hit Fark.com - too bad this wasn't a few days ago to get the buzz going as the auction ends in 3 hours - oh well. Watching the hit counter fly up there is entertaining! ;-)
