Except if it's infringing someone's trademark, maybe, and if the mark holder is
aggressive enough to protect it from potential cybersquatters.

Really? but the spelling is different, is it also considered infringing someone's trademark? If that is the case, big companies shouldn't bother to purchase all the typo domains like Google.com, gooogle.com, goooogle.com, etc :)

From what I know Google means number 1 followed by 2, which at that moment of google starting the business, there are around 1,200,000,000 search results... if i am not mistaken, correctly me if i am wrong...

As long as you don't take advantage of their goodwill, then it's fine. If you took goolge.com and made a search engine, then you'd be infringing copyright, but if you made goolge.com and made a forum, for instance, then you should be OK.

A Googol is not more then:
    10.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000
    (1 x 10^100)

The name google is chosen because the first investment cheque was miswritten
    so indeed a typo :)

I think those typos get more type-in traffic so seems like easily ranked in SE. Thats why you can say SE like Google rank these keywords high. Type-in traffic normally shows that the website is a popular and rich content site.
In other words I like getting natural traffic more than those typos as they are consistent.
I once owned a blog called digitalpointing.com which I sold and the blog was receiving constant traffic because they rank either close to DP or higher in certain related keywords :)
Those traffic I would say are better than type-in which will flunctuate sooner or later as the only thing they will get is just a blank page or parking page.

    Indeed, given eBay's suit.

Then again, some people are likely to do it if they know they're beyond that
    other party's reach.
