Digital Point Suggestion

    Hi,

I thought about this for a while, after reading very long (10 pages + ) threads. I was wondering if it was possible to make a plugin where the thread owner/moderator can hilight key posts, just so we don't need to read all the comments that take up pages and pages.

It's just an idea I have had, and if it's bad then just say so :)

I agree Hecky. Sometimes, especially in sales threads, I need people to see info but they miss it because it is not the first post and they end up asking the same questions over and over.

Definitely one of the better suggestions

Thanks lucozade111 for the example, and I would have to agree with that, especially the controversial sales threads. Just taking This as a random example, it has lots of posts, and the Thread owner changed the package price 1/2 way through, this would be impossible to know unless you read through the whole thread.

    Thanks,

    Hecky

Can we put you down for the guy / girl that is going to go through 4 million threads/posts and "highlight" what YOU feel is important....

Sorry this for sure is not going to get approved,

Not even in a million years...................

    haha.....highlight important areas....

Oh and btw.............what happens if the parts highlighted some thought weren't important, but others did

Just make sure when you are dealing in the bst , you read the whole thread

Thats the safest and best way to have a good user experience

Well obviously if you were going to buy a product of someone then you would read the whole thread, but if you want to hear key points that the seller wants to say, then they can hilight them.

By hilight I don't mean they have a colored background like normal, just something like in the origional post maybe theres like a bit at the bottom that has "Posts the Thread owner has hilighted" and then links to the posts.

Maybe users can also nominate posts to be 'hilighted', and when 3-4 people have nominated one post it goes through.

    Idk, it's an idea!

Although the concept is great but the implementation isn't. Something important to someone maybe completely useless to another.

There are actually several methods we can all work together on that can make something like this happen. There are several hacks/mods on vBulletin.org that allow certain posts to stand out over others, many of which rely on member participation.

Though honestly, I think looking for such things would be annoying, and in the end you are correct here:

While I'd love to SKIM threads like the stickies here in Site Suggestions with a gazillion posts in them, in many other parts of Digital Point I think skimming can detract from not only the discussion, but from making an informed decision about a sale.

Well, as I said I think that if I was to actually buy something then I'd read the whole thread, but if it was just for looking at the most up to date offer, just to see if I'm interested then this would be useful for me.

Why can't the OP just Underline, bold , or make there own key points

With the editor that IS built in to VB software

I personally think there is enough options already

    Don't you ?

One simple solution for this would be the option for each user to see only post larger than a certain amount of words length

So, I am looking through a long thread, and I activate "show only posts for XX number of words"

It's right there in the forum search (native in vbulletin).

The trick would be to add this functionality to posts displays
