I ran several sites through the Domain Value Tool. I'm certainly no expert, but ALL of them seemed to come up with outlandish numbers. Most of which were WAY higher than I thought they should be.

One of the sites I ran through the tool I found here on DP. It's a picture hosting site that I'd came across while checking out ways to make money in the freebies section. The guy wanted people to upload pictures to his site and then post them on various forum sites. I figured he was artificially inflating the traffic on his site, but it may have been a way of promoting it as well. I couldn't decide which, but I still declined his offer. While I was trying to decide whether he was legit or not I found where he was trying to sell the site for $100. This tool valued the site at $7,140. From what I could find about the site it had been put online in April of 2008. I don't see ANY way that this site could be worth so much. It was way more than the guy who owned it thought it was worth.

I wonder how long it's going to take before the SCAMMERS find out about this site. I can see it in my mind, LOOK, http://domainvalue.congland.com values this site at $20,000,000,000. I'll sell it to you for the BARGAIN price of only $2,000,000 payable through PayPal.

Maybe that's what this site is really about anyway. It certainly doesn't seem to provide REALISTIC numbers.

    Liberia Dollars?!?!? :eek::D

Pure craziness, there have been sites like around for as long as I've been buying domain names - a good 10 years now. I suppose it gets them lots of links in.

Or maybe it's a variation on the scam where guys take out an advert saying a watch is worth thousands and then offering it for the 'bargin' price of a couple of hundred. The scam being that the watch was only worth a couple of pounds/dollars in the first place.

Id buy digital point for 100-200K. Anyone that pays more than that would be getting ripped off.

dp earns more then 50,000$ per month (and atleast it is increasing at 5%) (think so) then in 12 months it will be 600,000 $ and therefore in 8 years it would be over your cost.

    Buy it i recommend.

I don't think thats the correct value. The true value would be less than that.

How do you know how much it makes? Even if they tell you that doesn't mean its truth. I don't believe anyone on the net. :)

Does anyone know a website that appraises the REAL value of a domain? I'm talking about some independent reliable, trustworthy website that puts a fair market value on a website.

They do it for houses, why not have something for websites.

There is no way to truly do it accurately I think. People use compete and alexa but both can be very inaccurate for measuring traffic. Plus you have to factor in how much of a reputation or brand name the doman has.

Anyone that buys a expensive domain does so at their own risk.

Personally I think buying and selling domains is a sham for buyers. Very few domains are bought for what they are really worth because they wouldn't have been sold in the first place if they were worth the money. If your site is truly making you money why would you want to sell it? There has to be some catch and the buyer is left holding the bag. I got an offer for 5000 dollars to sell Dollarsblog.com is the site worth that? Hell no, but people want to buy it cause they are paying for the "BRAND" and because you can't get domains like this anymore. But I didn't sell it cause maybe the offer will go up even more someday as domain market gets more saturated. :)

With DP making $15,000/month (last I knew) the ROI would not be worth even $1m :)

The real value in any web site, or anything for that matter is what someone is willing to pay for it. Until that happens, any value is purely speculative.

Yep i totally agree, at the end of the day its worth is down to the person whos buying... someone badly badly wanting this forum could pay 20, 30 or even 40% above market value.

Anyway, i would be shocked if shawn was to sell it to be honest, its a nice little earner. :)
