Digital Point - Kept your PR??

    Hi DigitalPoint.

I wondered how did you keep your PR even though you changed the URL Locations?

Example: I believe you used to be

    forumdisplay.php=blah

    now its

    /forums/area-51.127/

But you have kept all the page rank in googles toolbar?

I was really thinking about moving over from vbulletin to xenforo, but I am quite nervous about losing any PR my pages have acquired.

    Thanks for any pointers.

    Mick

PageRank is pointless, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah you do have a point, content is key right!

But I just found it amazing that all your pages are all still PR5's and PR4's but your whole URL structure changed.

For example, If I change a URL of my posts, they will not regain the PR3's or PR2's that I get, it can take months or not even change back.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Just make sure you redirect stuff and you'll be fine.

    Thanks for that,

Did you redirect it in your main config files (nginx) or htaccess (apache)?

Again thanks for your time, really trying to pluck the courage to move over.

Yeah... Our redirects are all handled at the web-server level.

Google will take into account the age of the site, the rate that new content is added, the quality of the content and apply different indexing rules depending on the result.

Example: This forum is "old", well maintained and with a new content being added constantly - it's going to get preferential treatment when compared to my "old" but infrequently updated blog.
