I find the DP forums to be probably the least arrogant and most friendly and helpful forom on the web. Lots of powerful webmasters and people doing exciting web stuff.

DP has undergone a change- and quite a massive change at that.

Some of the points that Gatorade has raised are valid ones.

Are there more spam type posts ?- Yes

Do the old members not post as frequently as they used to before ? - Aye to that too.

While the number of members has definitely gone up, quality has taken a bit of a beating.

As for the " Indians are scammers " issue that has come to dominate this thread, here are my thoughts.

1.) There are good and bad people in India, just as you would find in England, America, Russia and other countries.

2.) The exchange rate does play a major role- and we see many Indians coming in here for quick money. No issues with that, but it is the manner in which some of them try earn it that becomes a cause for concern-VCC's, warez and RS being a few. Of course, all the three mentioned above are now banned at this forum.

And you'll see a fair number of Indians in those " earn 20 cents " threads. For people like Gatorade and many others, that probably represents stooping to a level that they would never go down to. Thereby the association of the word cheap, and consequently, the " decline in quality ".

Then you'll see people who cannot string two English words together applying for writing jobs. They '' think " that their English is good enough when it actually is not. As a speaker of decent English, messages of that type tend to irk you.

3.) Not many people are aware of copyright issues. Photos, images, wallpapers, videos are all blatantly used without checking copyright status.

Again, I'm not generalizing or pointing towards anybody- just some facts. There are good and bad people everywhere, and everybody is free to act the way they want.

Its just a foolish thing to compare the changes in DP with Indians. Why don't you go and invite your nations people out here?
And, its really annoying to see the first point.

Here you go, just to help you out ;)

I probably missed a few as well. Anyway, the point to what I said is make sure you read through a thread before posting. That way it doesn't look as if you have just gone an entire way through and posted what you thought based on the first post.

    Daniel ;)

I think yours is the most correct assessment in the thread so far. The OP obviously has having a rough time putting "Scammers" and "Indians" in the same breath. Since this forum does not have any rules that state "Indians not allowed", they are free to join and participate in the discussions.

You're absolutely right when you say that prices have gone way to cheap for the services offered here. Thats not just hurting people from the West but Indians as well...talking about Indian webmasters who have been here for a few years (ask Amit Patel). The problem runs deep, India has a big population and loads of them speak English because thats one legacy of the British rule thats helped them. And of course, its a developing country and middle-level wages are nowhere near the ones offered in developed countries.

But there are other third world countries too whose people are here and also offer cheap services (Philippines, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan etc) and they have also contributed towards the price fall. Its not like the world only consists of US, Europe and India!

I've just noticed a small fallacy in your statement. You seem to suggest (even though you've said "I'm not generalizing or pointing towards anybody") that many Indians "cannot string two English words together". True for some of them, but most know the language way better than people from Eastern Europe or China or Russia because English as a language is given high importance in the Indian education system.

I am a product of that system and I'm sure you won't find many grammatical errors in whatever I have said so far ;)

This problem is about everywhere you go today. There's usually a bad somewhere in this good. Eventually one day the ultimate solution will come.

I have a few problems with DP that seem to increase over time. It would be great if there was better moderation.

    1. There are to many posts that go off topic, like in this thread. I don't care if the post is positive or negative, but they should be deleted.

    2. To many people with ego trips. There have been some members that go into posts that claim that something is better, but in a harsh way. It's ok to claim that you are a reputable member or your product is the best or w/e, but don't do it in a way that disses other products or members who use other products. It's frustrating because some good threads are started, but they go off topic because of this.

    3. I first came to DP because of the Market Place, but now it is very junky, and people offer services with very low prices, which become hard to compete with. But this is a global market and what can you do?

I know some say if you don't like DP, make your own, but it is very hard and time consuming to create something like DP.

    About http://www.shawnhogan.com/2006/08/im-an-indian.html

    He is NOT Indian.

Okay, in truth there was a webmaster meet for Digital Point users in New Delhi, India on June 17th, 2006, and they sent me some traditional Indian pajamas. :) So check it out, I'm an Indian now (at least I can sleep like one).

I agree with Gatorade, I do agree that there are way too many scammers on here, sure there are alot of indians on the forums but that does not matter at all.

I agree with Kerosene with the spelling and grammar, this is an english speaking forum.

Massive LOL at Shawn Hogan being Indian hahah.
