    Digital Marketing is a very broad term which is used for web marketing, online marketing, internet marketing, e-marketing or social media marketing. However, Digital Marketing is actually a combination of all forms of electronic marketing, executed through a well-crafted strategic plan. It is among the most modern methods of promoting brands, services and products by reaching millions of customers through different digital advertisement channels. Well, you can say that it is a branch of traditional marketing, but at this point at least, it is a highly technical speciality which now banks on the latest digital channels for touching base with stakeholders, investors, and clients. It is becoming one of the largest components of the marketing strategic planning that is done to promote products, services and brands with the ultimate goal of increasing sales.

    So, basically it is carried out for advanced digital communication with the customers and stakeholders, and for enabling access to the products and services. This digital marketing is achieved via different methods which are as follows.

    Social Media Marketing

    Another big component of digital marketing is the social media marketing which includes social media optimization. It is also termed as social SEO and involves activities which are carried out on the social media platform for attracting unique or targeted guests to website content.     SMO for website optimization involves two methods.

    • Adding media features to the content e.g.Social news, sharing buttons, RSS feeds, polling tools, user ratings or using third party videos or images to add community functionalities.
    • Through social media promotional activities which does not involve the content promotion. This technique includes blogging, giving comments on different blogs, joining discussion forums and frequent status updating on Social platforms like Facebook etc.
    Retail and CPG businesses particularly, and other service providers have their online presence on the web world, basically any business that competes for a consumer. They aim to use the cyber world for branding and promotions, and this has given rise to the concept of digital branding. Businesses with effective online networks and experts are using a mix of the above mentioned SEO and SMO techniques for promoting their fortunes.

    Website development is also another very important part of all these processes, but there are still many businesses which are operating without having an official website, and from a new age marketing perspective that is an issue, because typically a good website is the hub of digital marketing. These are basically third party promotions where other websites or social media platforms are being used for the purpose. If your website is more than five years old, optimization techniques are very difficult and is something every business should look into.

    Search Engine marketing (SEM)

    Search Engine Optimization is one of the main branches of SEM. It is a technique which is used for the purpose of ensuring that your website or content is ranked high among the results of various search engines. It involves content managementwhere you use targeted keywords for driving traffic to your web pages. It is a widely used method for digital branding and has proven results.

    Display advertisement:

    Another technique of digital marketing or internet marketing is the online display of advertisements. This technique uses the worldwide internet platform for transporting marketing messages, attracting and communicating with customers and potential customers. Examples include banner ads, media rich ads, blogs, contextual ads for search engines, interstitial ads, classified ads and social networking ads etc.

    All of these techniques must be harnessed through a solid advanced digital media strategic planning process which businesses employ in marketing and the results are normally measurable and sustainable.

    If it's on the internet, it's all internet marketing. SM, Email, SEO... it's all the same thing. Get a clue first, then write something.
