Digital camera?

    Hi all,

    Newbie here :)

I'm after a digital camera. Doesn't have to be too special beyond a) a high resolution (12MP minimum) and b) reliable and likely to last a while. I'm looking into this - http://ubuyhardware.com/p~p-1848567000~b-402~Olympus-Stylus-Tough-8010-14-Megapixel-Digital-Camera---Silver.aspx - do you guys think it'd be appropriate? Any suggestions of an alternative?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes its a good camera. And Olympus cameras are always good. You can buy them without thinking much.
But you should also look out others like SONY or NIKON before going to buy it.

Olympus is really nice. I am using 10mega pixel 20x zoom config... don't remember exactly and it works like charm. No complaint at all.

Agree with this one. Panasonic as doku asked is as well a good one. I personally like SONY, though.

My last two cameras have been Sony Cybershots. The only reason I've had two is because the first one got stolen on holiday.
I'm sure it would have lasted another decade if I still had it :). I love em.

There should be a price limit whenever someone is asking for a recommendation otherwise you won't get an appropriate advice.

Anyhow, you can never go wrong with a Canon brand and I think Canon Ixus is within your price range.

I have had really good experience with Cannon cameras. Infact I still use a 3.2 MP cannon which gives amazing pics. I even use a 10MP camera, but it turns into a hassle with large image sizes and hence more time to upload into facebook etc. So if your not into professional photography then even 8MP or 10 MP is really good enough. I find canon nice as it connects with any USB cords unlike sony. Even the memory card and charger for sony is different sizes and expensive and needs specific adapters.

Ive own a few olympus and sony cameras... but now i prefer canons over those. Canon has a bunch of good cams in every price point so depending on what you want they have some great options. I have 3 canons now.. a sd800IS small camera, a medium Canon G10 and a large 5dmk2 SLR camera..

    =)

Personally I always side with Canon's and dislike Nikon's, but that's just me.
    ;)

One camera I use a lot is the Canon EOS 40D.
    It's a beautiful camera!
From first time camera users, to experts, it's perfect.
Easy to pick up and use, and shoots great without any help.

I have a Sony Digital Camera, durability wise it is really worth it, I have it for 5 years though of course it has low pixel size and I think I will choose Sony to upgrade my digital camera.

Sony is the brand to choose although it is a little bit costlier when compared to other popular brands. The next options may be Nikon, canon ... imho :)
