"Digg" Traffic - Webmaster & SEO nightmare!!!!

Digg traffic can be sometimes a nightmare both for webmasters as well as the SEO

Imagine one of your stories jacked up on the first page and then you have all those crap digg duggers who digg a big hole in your website

And the traffic from there sucks, as shown in a research, traffic from digg convert only a 1/3rd of that from search engines, so you know they suck up the bandwidth for no reason

It has happened to me once, had the site down for a full day:mad: and had to pay up for the extra badwidth

Someone who has a number of websites will end up not knowing about the outage and can get hit by search engine robots pulling down you in serps because of "404 error"

You can find a nice topic here on the frontpage of digg
http://digg.com/tech_news/Why_Digg_is_Blocked as a true webmaster DIGG it guys:D

Guess what there is a nice competition going on there, read over the comments and u will certainly find some funny, digg it guys

I cant argue with some of your points but i disagree that digg should just be blocked.

If a story makes the home page it can result in hundreds of backlinks to your site which could easily be worth a few hundred dollars to generate manually.

It also builds awareness for your brand.

I agree with you though it can really kill you temporarily and the traffic doesnt monetize well, but for me its mor about the big picture.

Actually, what are we here for..it isnt charity....not meant to be rude......but if it doesnt monetize....making a website famouse in digg and that too temporarily is a waste of energy and time.

I dont know what backlinks you are talking about, the dugg page remains on the high PR pages temporarily...until and unless one of the dugg*ers* gives you a link...highly improbable....they only likes stories in digg and not your website....read the comments by dugg*ers* in the OP link

1/3 as conversion rate is not bad at all, considering the amount of traffic, and the link bait you could pull from being featured on the front page of Digg, not quiet sure and agree with what you say.

that is why you need a good hosting, not running a business critical site on a overcrowded shared server with no more than 95% uptime and frequent timeouts. Bandwidth is CHEAP nowadays.... I am also not referring to oversold/unlimited hosts but REAL ones.

My experience with Digg was opening account and later on clicking Digg button on one of my pages on my website and my account was banned :( Therefore Digg can go to hell. Waiste of time opening account filling out all the info and then getting banned for digging ONE page ?

If you plan to get "dug", you should prepare for the huge surge in bandwidth and resource.

Hey have you ever been dug to the frontpage of the digg site, well i have been , so i know how it feels, u have all the traffic and attention in the world, but wont earn you a dime

I m not a noob that you are giving a lesson to me on shared and dedicated hosting, it is not about hosting but it is about worth that much bandwidth when it hardly gives you anything, neither the traffic comes from a targeted traffic

When i was dug to the front page the statistics was this
    UV-12034; PV-14826
On an ordinary day it is something like this
    UV450; PV - 4351

Now you know which traffic converts, the ordinary day one is actually visiting your webpages and interested in it

have seen 75k from the front page, spot #3-#4.
But it will probably depend on your niche - title and description.

If you really dislike the fact that it's possible to be shut down from Digg, then why would ever make a post to it. Why don't you put on your site please do not Digg my site. make a button that says Digg but actually buries.

I am not trying to be rude but for pete's sake, those are good kind of problems to have. It's just like the guy who won the lotto. He states he wouldn't wish it on his worse enemy. All the problems that go with it. You have to pay half in taxes, you get all the people asking you for money. PLEASE, send me the traffic and the lotto!!!
