I have been twice on the homepage, but those stats are absolutely awesome. where are you hosting your site and did the server crash ?
Awesome, Brilliant and amazing mate, this is what social bookmarking is all about. Did yr server got exhausted that particular day? seriosuly amazing stuff man.
Its not surprising.. and its not awesome until the thing shared is awesome. If the story submitted there is really good then it would get exposure. Or else don't expect anything.
Usually traffic from digg don't convert well unless you have an awesome business model. I did it 9 months ago if i am not mistaken and you know what, server overload. Curious, is it your site hosted on your dedicated server?
The site is hosted on blogger with a custom domain. That's why it survived the traffic onslaught. I have other site hosted on shared server. Thanks god, this isn't. Otherwise it would have long gone. If you intend to get to digg's front page, make sure you have good servers. And digg's traffic does not last long. Now it's down to about 1500 hits per hour. In a few hours it will be gone. You get about 24 hrs of exposure. You have to make the most of it. This is the third time this has happened but I haven't seen anything this big. The first time I got a linux article on digg, a year ago. Got about 1000 diggs and brought only 20K visitors. The second time, an article received 1500 diggs and brought 60K visitors. This time it was 3000+ diggs. So I guess, the number of visitors is proportional to the no of diggs. Apparently, not all front page stories receives the same amount of hits.
Congrats theredgiant. It would be cool to see how your traffic from Digg tapers over the next few days and weeks. If it will be a quick decline or a slow fade. Definitely repost in a week or two with an update.
Digg is indeed awesome for both traffic and to waste time on, hah! Generally Digg traffic isn't too good for making money, as most Diggers are very tech-savvy and rarely click ads, or they use plugins like AdBlock and don't see the ads at all! Still, traffic spikes like that are fantastic, especially when flipping your site...
Nothing big deal. My blog received more than 100k unique visitor within 3 hour after some one submitted it to digg. I'm really surprise coz the blog i never update and it consider neglected blog.
I made it to the front page a few months ago, and received around 30K visitors and 1200$ in revenue. I think that is a life time chance.
$1200 from 30K visitors! How did you do that? Surely you can't make that much from adsense or other ads. did you sell something?
Never tried Digg, but that's great news congratulations, hopefully wont be the last time you get traffic from Digg.
Nice one mate, I am looking to submit an article to digg at somepoint and also more than likely stumbleupon aswel. I will post the url here soon, ~ Mike
