Digg, Impossible to hit the frontpage if you don't have huge list of friends?

Discussion in 'Social Networks' started by fatabbot, Feb 11, 2007.

Some of my stories hit the frontpage because they were submitted by one of the top 20 diggers. But when someone "new" to that site submits something it seems impossible to get a decent amount of diggs.
Do you submit to digg? And what results are you getting from these submits?

    I submit to Digg sometimes.

I get around 10 - 20 Diggs and not alot of traffic.

It doesnt work well for me. Someone should make a Digg trade forum or something... Hmmm, That gives me an idea...

    Yeah that is not allowed.
But isn't a network of friends on digg basically the same?

It might be an explanation on why so much crap hit the front page.

Yes it is almost impossible unless you pick a story that lots of diggers try and submit themselves, find you submit it and digg your story.

As a small time digger you should work on networking among other diggers and ask them to review your submissions. It works great (if you make good content) and is a legitimate way of doing it.

PM me if ya wanna network and share digg submissions.

As a top digger myself, friends are the single most important thing you need on digg. After friends comes good content of course. If you have neither, you will never make the front page.

Yes, I agree with that. If you want to hit the front page, make friendships.

Yes i've never gotten my post on the front page, although I am working at it. Just get alot of friends and such. Digg gets me about 10-20 visitors though and some of them keep coming back. Its good for just posting something xD

I used it and got some traffic. Is the idea here to try and keep posting new news? But how often?

When the top friends existed, you had them on your list, and they just tended to digg every article submitted by their "friends."

Your best bet is excellent articles and perfect titles.

mightyb - you've been front-paged over 100 times? Or just stories made it on Digg over 100 time?

My site has been on the front page twice, both times is received 50,000+ hits over the course of 2 days, then another 25,000 or so residual from other social bookmarking sites picking it up.

SCW1975 - agree with you 100% ... I've seen diggs on my submissions go from 2-3 when I first started, to 10-20 now just because I've built a larger network of friends. I don't Digg my own silly humor site though (don't want to get banned), but always find it interesting what posts readers submit.

    Smiles,
    Anita :)
