Just a general question that I have been pondering. For any give keyword, how difficult is it to move from a poor listing (say anything anything above 500) to the top 10? Once your websites rankings start to improve, does it get increasingly more difficult to get a top 10 SERP result? For example, is it more difficult to move from #500 to #50 than from #50 to #5? For example, from what I have read, Page Rank is ranked logarithmically; at any point does a better result approach the same scale in moving up in the results? Thanks
It totally depends on the keywords. You can go to #1 in one day for noncompetitive stuff. For example my blog is #1 for Hybrid Hummer after a little blurb I put about it.
Yep, that's right. I did the same thing with a post about "yellow cheeta eyeglasses". It was #1 two days later. No real SEO is required for noncompetitive phrases. With competitive phrases, it just really depends upon how much weight you throw at it.
Yep... competitive things like Western Union has taken many months, and many thousands of links to get to be #2.
I've had rankings before for: leonardo da vinci poison would you recommend an abortion great liars are also great magicians define-antidisestablishmentarianism Wierd...
Forums are great to get listed for random #1s. I crack up at the stuff I'm #1 for! "Whoring in Mexico" is one.
In my experiance, it has been easier to go from #50 - #5, then it was to get the 1st foothold (#500 - #50). Possibly...But if we knew exactly how the Google algo worked, we wouldn't all be here .
I reckon it'll be quite tough to get from #500 to #50, 'cos if you are #500, your site needs a lot of optimisations ... could even be basic optimisation I suppose .... but if you get from there to #50, you might see a bit of a snowball effect carrying you forward to the top 10. Once you are in the top 10, you also seem to get random people linking to your site helping you move up inch by inch ... all you need is a "Link to Us" page
