    Hey there,

You know, when we start up a site its good not to target too competitive keywords...

Question 1:So what exactly is comp and non competitive? i mean around what no. of searches on adwords keyword tool would be deemed as competitive?

Question 2: Do u always target the actual website or specific articles specific to the keyword?

For eg: if i have a general site on insurance and i want to target "car insurance" and i hav a good comprehensive article on that.. what should i do/////// direct the anchor text to the actual website or the actual informative article?

Don't target any keyword because it will make you out of track, consumes your time and it will give you lesser time to edit your article. Just keep on track and regularly check your search engine traffic and if the title of your article is not working. You can modify it. :D

Target niche keywords like web design nj instead of web design. This will get you listed faster, which then you will have an easier time getting listed on the other keywords once your PR goes up.

How can you tell if a keyword is competitive? By going to Google and typing in the keyword; if there are more than 2 million indexed websites I would consider it competitive.

Competitiveness is much more than how many results show up for a search. Those pages aren't necessarily targeting that specific phrase, they just happen to have those keywords on their page or in a link to their page.

A better way to check competitiveness is to examine the top 5 - 10 ranking websites. See how many links each of those pages has and how strong those links are.

Typically the higher the number of daily/monthly searches, the more competitive a keyword will be. This can vary depending if the keyword is an action keyword. It could also vary if the keyword applies to more than one niche.

You should use your homepage to target your most competitive keyword. A homepage typically ranks higher than an internal page because it usually gets more links overall. Use your internal pages to rank for longer phrases (3 - 5 word phrases).
