Hi, When I search the term "jabongworld thanksgiving" (without quotes) on Google.com then Google displays the title tag as follows "Clear All - JabongWorld" (without quotes) in SERP (on 4th Spot). (Please see the image attached.) But when you click the link and visit the same page then you can find a different title as "Thanksgiving Gifts: Black Friday and Thanksgiving Day Dresses and Gifts" (without quotes). Why Google changed the title in SERP? Why Google is showing such weird title instead of title written in <h1> tag?
It's probably because the current one is too long and perhaps a little 'heavy' on the keywords. Google tend to limit title tags to 50-60 characters, and this is 72. Also it looks a bit too promotional - 6 out of 10 title words are repeated. EDIT: It's also worth pointing out that Google tends to take titles from the <title> tag and not the <h1> tag (remember that as per HTML5, you can have multiple <h1> tags per page, so Google doesn't tend to look at the <h1> tag for this purpose).
Sorry, It is my mistake. I was talking about the <title> tag not <h1> tag. I mistyped it. If you talk about the <title> tag of the page it clearly denotes the following code: <title>Thanksgiving Gifts: Black Friday and Thanksgiving Day Dresses and Gifts</title> According to you the title should be around 50-60 characters and it is 72 characters long. Now the question is why Google displays only "Clear All - JabongWorld". If it is beyond the limit then Google should terminate the extra characters. Why specific "Clear All" is used?
Whenever you search for your keyword like as you said "thanksgiving gifts......and gifts" it will result your website with the title as you have given. Does that solve your problem. Actually i have been facing the same problem.
No problem, just wanted to double check. I agree it's strange that clear all is displayed - I think because Google decided not to use the <title> tag, it used its own internal algorithm and there might be a bug in it because I agree that 'clear all' isn't used anywhere on that page.
Hi, Please type the following URL : http://www.jabongworld.com/thanksgiving-gifts.html direct in the Google.com. You will find the same title you are asking for. The "clear all" will be vanished. I think it is clear to you now.
They do this a lot, particularly if the anchor text of a link to that page in your website's navigation menu is different to the HTML title.
Did you update it soon? This can make such a confusing situation. Also does this title (that shows up in Google!) appear somewhere in your blog?
I believe its not just short or long tail keywords that you have , it also depends on lots of parameters like traffic and other factors.
