I need the Google SEO guru's opinion about this case. I am starting a lifestyle blog and the articles inside will be translated into few languages. So i am wondering what is the better way for more traffic, to use one domain with different language paths, or to use few domains for every language. In the first case main page will be in English (primary language) and the others will be like www.domain.com/de/ for Germany and www.domain.com/gr/ for Greece and etc.
I suggest one domain rather than multiple. You will be able to get backlinks from Germany for the domain.com/de, Greece domain.com/gr etc and these will be deep links for your domain. The blog will grow quickly this way and you should be able to get great indexing and quick spidering due to the deep links.
Use the meta for each page. <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Language" Content="fr"> de for german el for greek I am not a language expert so hopefully if more is needed someone will chime in...
Interesting problem, I would go for multiple domains, using a country specific domain extension example .de .gr .fr for each language. I would also host each domain in the relevant country. This method should make positioning/ranking for the given keywords a slightly easier task, especially if searchers use the country search option !! Good Luck
