    Hi,

I am developing a photography site which will have forum, photo gallery etc. I was just wonderin if its a good idea to distribute this work as

domain.com - articles, tips and tutorials etc
    domain.net - forums/galleries etc
domain.org - link directory photographer portfolios etc.
    domainB.com - photo contests

Does this make sense to split content in this way and integrate sites into each other thro design? will this help for SEO as well?

This means you would have to buy 4 domains, which doesn't make any sense.
You can use subdomains instead. For example:
    articles.domain.com
    forums.domain.com
    photos.domain.com
