A blog can contain a lot of articles. You write an article then post it into a blog.

You can generally use an article on both article directories on blogs, while normally on a blog you write a blog post and its usually more engaging then an article thats on an article directory.

Article submissions are very confined to the niche but blog can be on any domain. Blogs are generally in between 100 and 500 words. Articles are generally between 400 to 1500 words. Article submission includes title, summary, content, author-bio, keyword and tag whereas blogs doesn’t include.
An article may also refer to source information or even directly quote sources. Articles are more likely to be written in the third person. Blog posts often contain the author’s opinion.

An article is a lengthy piece of writing, accounting in an expert’s point of view, aimed at explaining a topic in abundant detail. A blog post is a shorter piece of writing, usually in a ‘conversational’ style, aimed at updating or educating your readers, or to spark ideas and interest in your business.

Articles are more likely to include detailed research, quote authorities, and source information, and they are less likely to promote conversation or offer the ability to comment. Blog writing has its share of disadvantages in that the readers tend to expect more frequent updates than article based audiences. For blogs to work properly, your content will have to be compelling and you will have to write at regular intervals.

Everyone knows that “content is king,” especially when it comes to search engine optimization. However, the lines between blog posts and articles are becoming increasingly blurry and people sometimes think they are interchangeable. They aren’t. An article and a blog post are actually two different things. Here are the distinctions:

BLOG POST: Blog posts are usually shorter pieces (250-450 words) written in a conversational tone that provide tips and general information. They can be designed to spark an interest in readers to take a closer look at your services or products, or simply to share some words of wisdom. Usually they focus on the author’s point of view about a particular topic and often encourage readers’ comments, which can be just as useful as the post. The more comments a blog post generates, the more visitors you will have.

ARTICLE: An in-depth article (500-1,500 words) quotes reliable sources, offers detailed explanations, and provides up-to-date research and statistics. While they also utilize specific keywords, they are usually a little more formal and written in a way that presents you as an expert in your field. A good, feature article will provide two or more external outbound links to a complimentary or reference site. Providing high quality references enhances the value of your article and increases the chance of return visitors.

I think you will be understand it.
    Thanks

Well the main function of article is to present information in a more objective fashion where as a blog is a part of a conversation.Generally the comment options are there in blogs.Articles are not necessarily addressed directly to the reader. Rather, articles are more likely to be written in the third person. All articles can be blog posts, but not all blog posts will be articles.

Articles are generally approximately 1500 words and contain explanations, analysis and/or visuals (screen captures, illustrations, etc.) Articles are evaluated on the value of the content to the community as well as on accuracy.

Blogs are tips, general information, or otherwise brief information regarding the use and implementation of Symantec products. Blogs are generally between 100 and 500 words and are submitted to the site via the blogs area in the Symantec Connect community. Tips must relate to Symantec products. Blogs entries must be of interest to the Symantec Connect community.

    According to wikipedia:

Blog: A blog (a portmanteau of the term web log)[1] is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first).

    Article
An article is a written work published in a print or electronic medium. It may be for the purpose of propagating the news, research results, academic analysis or debate.

In general blog is like an online diary, you can write anything you know in blog without any chronological ordering. And an article can be any piece of writing around a specific topic.

You really mean the difference between a 'blog post' and an article. Well, with the advent of the web, people have established personal sites where they post anything from genuine articles to reports on how well their dinner is digesting—all of which has come to be known collectively as a 'web log', or 'blog' for short. So you could argue that articles are a subset of blog posts. Some blog posts are articles, others are ... well, rap with a capital C... and the rest are somewhere in between.

It's pretty self-explanatory. With blog posting, you post comments on blogs to get links. With article posting, you write articles and submit them to article directories or other websites, complete with links. Be aware that a lot of blogs have no-follow links, meaning that Google will not give your website page rank for the website, so it won't help you list higher in Google search results.
