Different angle? Or not?

Guys,

I would like your thoughts on a different approach to creating a new directory. This directory will offer reciprocal linking but the users will have the link pointing back to the category header page instead of the main site or home page.

For example, Let's say a user has a site for fishing and wants to place his link in the directory and place a reciprocal link in his directory or page. The link on his page would point towards the "Outdoor Sports" page instead of the home page. The same would apply for a user that has a basketball web site and the link that he places on his site would point towards the "Sport" category page.

Would this not be a better solution in regards to Matt Cutt's comments on "site relevance" for linking procedures?

Any thoughts most welcome.

Never gave the link back much thought.
But your idea is so much better than just a link back to the main page!

I think that if someone goes to a fishing site, and sees a link to my directory that goes straight to the page that has the relevant fishing (sports) links, it would do wonders for recips.

Can this be done in phpld?

My guy is building it in asp as we speak. He can build it in php as well. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you in contact with him. He will build it for a small fee. I told you guys he was good! But the recip idea is mine!

I don't want people linking back to my homepage. I want them linking back to their category in which they submitted to.

See for yourself. goto my directory and surf to the category of choice, click on submit and pay attention to the HTML text to be copied.

Yea that is a great idea. I think it also would spread the PR around a bit more as well.

Directories now need to do something different. There are so many being built every day.

Checked out the phpld script...could find no way to do this.
Free version, have not checked the paid version.

Is this going to have to be a mod to the script?

 

This would be better for webmasters as it would actually give the sites PR... It would be in their best interest to do a reciprocal link as it would help their PR (by boosting their directory's PR). Good job!

 

From day 1, I told everyone that my directory was to help and support those who support it

When i have more time to work on my directory, those who aren't supporting it with reciprocols will know and see the difference, and wonder why other links are ahead of theirs when searching. Liek it or not, that's just how the directory was meant to be and run. My featured people will gain the most benefit from the directory.

Wish there were more than 24hrs in a day

I like your setup. I have noticed there are some categories with PR1 but most PR0. This must be a new directory? I'd like to see it in another 3-6 months time.
