Hi, I have a website that gets a decent ranking for some keywords on Google. However, when I perform the same search on Yahoo, my website is nowhere to be found. My website is listed both on Google (obviously) and Yahoo. However, I have no clue why I don't get a decent ranking on Yahoo. Are there different optimization techniques for Google and Yahoo?
Usually people place well on MSN & Yahoo before Google... what is the URL for your site, maybe we can take a look at it?
I guess my site is anomaly then. Still I would like to know what I have done to get a high ranking on Google and very poor result on MSN and Yahoo for those keywords.
Google and Yahoo follows different search algorithms. Google is very strict as far as relevancy is concerned and ignores the relevant site url to some extent, but where as in yahoo search engine site url is primary source to get in top and secondary is the no. of backlinks to the site and third is how technically you spam as to some extent yahoo considers spam unlike in google. I think you got the decent clue on what you are referring.
Yahoo places more weight on on-page relevance. Relevance is not about keyword density, it's more about semantic relevance. Yahoo is also slow in indexing pages. Google and Yahoo also have different criteria in calculating trust score of a site or link. It's very likely that many of your links are considered high quality in Google's algo, but low quality in Yahoo's algo.
Yes, Yahoo tends to give a preference to spammier pages. Make sure you have your keyword on the page in quite a few prominent places.
I hav got the same problem, for some keywords one of my website is up in google but nowhere in yahoo and msn, another of my website is up on msn and yahoo but not in google, even that website is no one on msn for so many keywords. I think yahoo and msn likes the keyword density more. Now just have a look at this page http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=viagra+online&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t400&x=wrt as an example of yahoo.
i dont get any traffic in yahoo even if I have more indexed pages. On other site rank pretty good on Google for some very competitive keywords. Have no idea why
i find ranking for any keyword in yahoo very difficult , my be i need to focus more on getting ranked in yahoo, i seems to have no trouble with msn and google.
Being as Google attracts the most searchers (I've heard estimates of between 65-80%) then why bother with ranking in Yahoo and MSN which are in the single digits? You'll get more traffic if you focus on Google.
My site ranked well in msn for some time, and from last week it is not showing up even in top 100 results. Are they doing any updates? Thanks,
Hi !! Every search engine has its own parameters for ranking a web site. These parameters are as follows: 1. Search engine class 2. Relevancy algorithm 3. Paid inclusion programs 4. Time frame and age 5. Crawl depth 6. Link authenticity & Content 7. Open directories, etc. For more information about the differences between Google & Yahoo! search results visit www.tech-sage.com
hi, All the 3 search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN have got different and totally opposite alogorithms for rankign a site on their rlevant keywords. Their are very few sites that are actually ranking on top on all 3 search engines for a given keyword. Google right now is mainly lookign at the most relevant and quality backlinks on that particluar keyword along with its density and proximity in both title, meta tags and content of the website. Also Google gives priority to unique and quality content of the website. Yahoo goes for more of link exchange adn also it will take your site once u r registered in Yahoo directories. MSN goes for no of backlines and will also go in for keyword stuffing. But personally I feel u shld b happy tht ur site is rankign in google bcoz it is pretty difficult to rank in Google than in MSN and Yahoo and researchers have revealed that 70% of people in the world use Google for making any kind of searches. So y worry... Regards, Kailyn Morgan
It's not quite that high, although I wish it was since I am ranked very highly in Google and not at all in Yahoo or MSN. If it were up to me, 100% of people would use Google. Figuring out Yahoo and MSN search engines seems to be much more difficult. It is definitely beneficial to be listed in both Yahoo and Google. MSN has dropped off significantly since last year in terms of searches. Together these 3 still account for nearly 90% of all searches. The normal figures you hear tossed around in articles are Google 47-55%, Yahoo 21-25%, MSN 8-10% My advice would be to get in Google first (obviously) and then try for Yahoo. One of my sites does very well in Google and decent in Yahoo (don't ask me how I pulled that off, I'm not sure ) and the additional Yahoo traffic makes for a nice supplement. having the kyword n ur URL is one of the biggest things for Yahoo so if u dont have that its harder to rank PS: smrtamit04, you realize this thread is like years old right, (i only realized after i replied to the question lol)
Yahoo gives good importance to H1 tag. Try giving H1 tags to few of your keywords and check results after few weeks in yahoo .
