difference between web design and web development

    i see many institutes teach web design and web development they says to me they are different can any one tell me what is the difference between them?

    web design is just web design and css/xhtml. Web development is more of the programming side and coding I believe.

    Web design is the process which controls front end look of a website. It includes CSS, html and Xml part of a website. Wed development is the process of developing a functional website. It includes backend coding, database creation, hosting setup and managing all other aspects of website. You can say that web designing is a subset of website development.

    According to me web design does the work for designing the website, whereas the web developer develops the website.

    Web development is more of the big picture, taking user experience and business logic into account, while web design is more focussed on the actual aesthetics and look.
