Difference between text and image ads with Adsense?

Quick question to every AdSense-professionals out there:

Is there a big difference in terms of what you get paid for each click between Google's text-ads and image-ads?

I've never used image-ads so I dont have the answer.
I have always been of the opinion that image-ads are more disturbing than text-ads, but the answer of this question might make me reconsider my choice.

    Appreciate your comments on this.

Image ads are usually cheaper, in my experience. You also get a lower ctr with image ads, unless your site is heavily graphically oriented.

I prefer image ads because on occasion my ad channels are targetted by a CPM based placement campaign. I've noticed they are more often than not image ads and I end up making much more.

You have a pretty nice explanation on a google page i can't post yet.

The best practice is to use both, or use the ones that suite the content of your website if you're picky with higher probability of lower earnings.

I can't post the link where it is well explained since I'm a new member, but you're mostly right.

I used adjective mostly because there are some cases where visitors neglect text ads, such as text ads in the middle of your content (they just skip their attention from paragraph to paragraph) or putting text ad on a website whose major content are images... where they stand out and "shout" as much as flashy images do on ordinary websites.

For example, I plan to use text/image near the top of my website, image square at the sidebar and text only ad at the bottom. Although I'm not a big fan of websites with too many ads on them so it's not organized in that way at the moment.

I don't think you get paid the same with image ads in my experience, text ads are paid more so stick to text ads if you can.

Looking at this years stats... hmmmmm

Image ads and flash ads have a very low CPC, CPM and CTR.
The problem is that Rich Media Ads and animaged image ads pay very well.
And if you run text ads only, you dont get richmedia and animated image.

    Last 1000000 impressions.

    Overall CMP ~1,2
    Image 0.7
    Animaged Image 2.2
    Rich Media 19.0
    Flash 0.5

Would be cool if we could just disable Image and Flash :)
I guess Image ads pay so little because most of them are CPM based.
CMP ads basicalls suck on a site with a CTR over 0.5

    THe text ads only experiment:
Check out our advanced reports => ad types.
If you get too many low paying image ads, disable them.
But in my case running all ads is slightly better.
When i switch to text only, the text ad cpc actually goes up, but my ctr goes down at the same time and I usually earn a little less.

better you use text ads....in my experience images ads got lower CTR....because people don't like to click ads......the image ads look like real ads.......some people don't know that the text ads is advertisement...

I see there is a big difference in what you earn with flash, rich media and animated image ads...

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't rich media ads flash ads? If there is a difference I'd like to know.

Which category does these ads fall into:
    http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=86949
The ads made with the Google Display Ad Builder.
They are "moving ads" (meaning it's motion in them without hoovering or clicking). Are they rich media or are they flash, or perhaps they are animated image ads?

I have been trying to work out what you mean there... I have searched through Google's site, and they only have these categories, except for text :

    Image Ad
    Video Ad
    Mobile Ad
    Rich Media Display Ad

You have these categories: Image, animated image (?), Rich media, flash (?).

When Google only have the four cateogries above. Wouldn't flash and animated image fall into rich media??
If I want a "animated image ad" in Google AdWords, where do I click?? And what's the differance between flash, animated image and rich media?
