Difference between keyword search with and without quotes

If I search a keyword phrase without the quotation marks, it comes up on #1 on google, however if I use the same keyword with the quotes search, my site doesnot even show up in the top 20.

If I come on #1 in Google as the top site for the phrase alone, should I concern for not coming up in the top sites when I do the quotes search ?

I think that when you enclose words with quotation marks, google only shows sites in which the words are together in the order you entered them
    Example:
    Search for: like this
    Google result:
So you can see that even thought many people like our product, more people like this product
    Search for: "like this"
    Google result:
People seem to like this more then our product

I think that this example explains it quite well

This is the plain and simple - Exact and no Exact

Example - If you search for Fried Chicken

Fried Chiecken (without quote) - Google will find any page that contain two separated words "Fried" and "Chicken". This mean even a page with one of two word contained in them has possibily to be listed in search results.

"Fried Chicken" (with quote)- Google will find only pages that contain two words together and ignore the pages that do not match this criteria.

if your keyphrase is being searched & getting you traffic I would be very happy! Maybe you could optimize other pages for other phrases (so you don't change the current one & accidentally drop down the rankings)

In my own experiences, this would happen more obvious when you have your targeted keywords as your domain name. :)

    Thanks,

When you enter keyphrase in google search, it breaks the words on its own and tries to bring most matching results related to your query. But when you quote your keywords and search then google knows that it does not have to break keyphrase and to provide results for exact keyphrase.

i got a question regarding this, dont know exactly how to ask it so i`ll write an example.say im optimizing my site for long tail keyword-automatic dog litter box.now when i type it in google i get 130000 results, but when i put it in quotation marks i get 7 results.so my question is will i be in front of those 130000 sites cause my site is more relevant, regardless low number of backlinks?

without quote mean the result are consider you are looking the keyword individually but both appear. With quote is mean you are looking for the exact keyword phrase.
However, most of the user are not using the quote, they will only using it once they found the result is not "satisfied them".

That is what we call "broad match" and "phrase match". Don't rely on phrase match results. people usually don't search quoted.
