Hi, this is my first post, so please be kind to this newbie! I have a blog on Blogger and little by little started optimising with every piece of advice here. Little by little traffic came. In the last 3 days I have seen an 800% increase in visitors! So naturally I wondered why. I discovered that my SEOed pictures are bringing 98% of this new traffic with Google Images, and I am very pleased with this. Now comes a difficult question: I'm writing a list for publishing in this blog and it must contain 96 items with one picture on each side of each item, with target, alt and title tags, each line being enclosed in table tags. Therefore I would have to upload 192 pictures on Blogger, one by one, and then modify by hand each to add the tags... This work entails the following: Draw the 192 pictures Save 192 pictures, one by one on my computer Upload to Blogger one by one because the I need to choose the position Copy the text of the links obtained Put the text into a word document where it gets treated by a macro I wrote which writes all the table, alt and title tags and saves the resulting text code in an ascii master file. End of work is when the master file is finished with all the code for the 96 items and it gets pasted into the html of the post. It's a huge job and I have to do this at night after work when my concentration is not the best. This will not be the only post I'll do like this, so I am trying to automate the work as much as I can. The procedure to upload pictures/retrieve the picture links in Blogger is long-winded, cumbersome, subject to errors, etc. It would be easier for me to upload the pictures on my host for another domain I own (on the same subject, but with a .tk extension). I have done this on occasion for other posts, but it seems the pictures are not indexed as well from this server than they are from Blogger and I need the traffic. The question is therefore: Is there really a difference in the way Google indexes images from Blogger or from my hosting services? or is my observation just a fluke? Many thanks to all for your suggestions. Briskette
Hi Briskette, Google almost follows the same algo for images as it uses for its organic search results. Domain age and reputation do give a plus point in indexing a image. This is the only reason the images hosted on blogger have good chances to index faster than your own domain. But it doesn't mean that images hosted on your server won't be indexed. If you have optimized the images in a decent way, the images will be indexed very soon.
Chauhanmanish many thanks for your reply. 1. The domain is older than the blog, but "less interesting" which may explain why the images on the domain get indexed slower although they are optimised. 2. My articles follows the ebb and flow of the news, which change fast. Each savory piece of news like air crashes, earthquakes or volcanoes, gets a blog article. Once people move on to other news, the article gets less viewing. So speed in indexing is vital for me.
Based on what I see comparing between images hosted on blogger and those on own server, basically indexing time for both are roughly the same. As mentioned earlier, there is also other factors that come together and I don't see any reason to conclude that images hosted on google platform were given preferences.
I think that if you host all your images in your own host, they will also be indexed. You can do some search in images.google.com and see that it doesn't not depend where you host your images to get them indexed. It depends on how you describe them via alt and title tags. PS: if you still want to use built-in blogger upload feature, you can batch upload images via Picasa (all Bloggers' images are hosted at Picasa as albums).
