What is the difference between http://site.com and http://www.site.com whaen creating a backlink... Is there any difference between these two for a search engine
I have experienced absolutely no difference from the Google SEO point of view. But, sometimes the visitors/users does not recognize it is an internet website address without the famous "www".
According to search engine guidelines, your website should carry only one absolute URL because different URLs for one page or same content for different URLs can make problem for users and search engine. They will not be able to find out main page to optimize at search engine.
Basically there is no difference between them as long as back links are concern. But people really judge website with or without w3 tags
you can search the article: "SEO advice: url canonicalization" , author is Matt Cutts, google engineer.
thanks a lot for ur replies when i try to check backlinks on some tools..... they are showing different number of links for http:// and http://www. .....can someone tell it makes any difference?
* www。example。com * example。com/ * www。example。com/index。html * example。com/home。asp If a page has several forms like that or others , then it seem to say that the weight is distributed, but google will only choose the best of them. To do 301 redirect , redirect other forms to what your choice on , would be to tell search engines, you are willing to put all the weights are added to the one you choice , then the weight would be to the direction of flow you need to focus.
