Difference between Google PR Toolbar and Webmaster Tools

    Can someone please explain these numbers to me. If I check my backlinks using the Google Toolbar it says I have 3. If I log into my Google account and go into Webmaster tools and check my sites external links I get over 1100. Why the big difference? What do each of these numbers mean?

    The backlink number in the Google Toolbar use the same mechanism as the Link:-command in Google search.
    Google have chosen not to show all backlinks with this command, but just a small sample.
    The amount of links shown in webmaster tools are closer to the real amount of backlinks, Google has indexed.

    So form a statistical point of view, are those the only ones worth looking at?

    Savant, you can safely conclude that the toolbar links are not worth spending time looking at.

    In addition to the Google webmaster backlinks, you could consider checking your backlinks with Yahoo, using the command linkdomain:

    Just be aware, that Yahoo backlinks may differ from Google backlinks. Just because Yahoo has indexed a backlink, it's not certain that Google will do the same.

    I think you are correct about that. I am considering removing the Google toolbar all together. I just seems to piss people off and not be accurate anyway
