What is the difference between Google analytics and Omniture? What type of services Omniture provides that GA not?

GA is free vs. Omniture Paid
GA is no support Vs. Omniture Supported
GA traffic limit 5 Mn per month vs. Omniture pay as you use
GA google uses your data for their benefit vs.Omniture your data is most likely to be secure

If you are starting on web analytics, you must actually use free tools first , try out Yahoo analytics as well if you get a chance. Understand what is missing in them from your standpoint. i.e. What data that you would want to collect that is not possible using free tools and then you can migrate to paid tools like Omniture and others.

    Thanks,
    Ravi

From online marketing perspective GA provide much comprehensive reporting of a website compared to other tools.

I just got Omniture SiteCatalyst installed at work, here are some differences:

-Our Omniture 12-month contract topped off at about $24,000 (it's based on the # of annual impressions your site gets), we get about 5k hits per day
-Everything with Omniture is going to cost you extra - that includes tracking conversions with your PPC campaigns, and it is NOT cheap
-Omniture doesn't track bounce rate (as you knew it on Analytics), but they have other tools that track visitor retention & dropout rate which are above and beyond what Analytics can do.
-Omniture is the only solution out there if you have to integrate your web analytics with other software packages, or track your customer call center conversions
-Omniture support is extremely costly - they bill you by the hour for personal tech support, and a simple half hour phone call will count as an hour. It's $300/hr.
-Omniture updates regularly, Analytics is basically 1-2x per day.

If you're a mid size business - Omniture would be worth it. If you're a small-size making 6 figures, it's going to be a major expense. Overall, the only reason to go with Omniture is if you must integrate with another web software, tracking, online sales or related package...otherwise, Analytics does everything it can do (and almost as good in many cases).

A quick correction here ! Omniture can calculate bounce rate. Bounce rate is no.of single page visits devided by no.of entry on your website.

There is a feature called calculated metrics that you can use to derive this metric.

Let me know if I can be of any help !

Also Omniture is costly but there are resources NOW available in market which are about a third of its price per hour.

    Thanks,
    Ravi:eek:
