hi i wan to to know basic difference in sitemaps and want to know which search engine use what type of sitemap XML sitemap ROR Sitemap HTML Sitemap
If you want the best sitemap solution for ALL of your sites you should go check out xml-sitemaps (The unlimited version). I can't even begin to tell you how well this works and I use it on every site I have (over 40 of them). It's 19.99 for unlimited use and completely customizable (you can limit the number of pages, directories, etc, etc, etc) And it communicates with Google and other SE's when it updates. It's like a sitemap on steroids...oh, and it creates all 3 formats for you so you always have all 3 (depending on which you want to link to). This is not meant to sound like a sales pitch, but this is the one tool that has been so instrumental in getting my sites indexed and ranked quickly. As you can see I stand to gain nothing from you buying it, I am just saying go check it out. Add dot com to the end of xml-sitemaps to see it (They also have a free online version, but it's not really what you want, trust me) I hope that helps. Good Luck. John
XML sitemap is use for SE such as google and html version is for users who r not technical, THOUGH first time i hear ROR sitemap exist.
ROR was never an official format. And it is more or less totally extinct now. Nevertheless, it's supported by many sitemappers. But no search engines actually read the ROR parts. (See above linked article in earlier post by me if curios)
