Hello, i was curious about this subject so i looked on the internet for an answer which i got, but that raised another question for me. As a website owner it seems much more profitable to use directly an ad server and not an ad network so why is nobody doing that? Is it just a question a trafic quantity, i mean i don't know how to be accepted in an ad server but i guess you should have quite a decent amount of trafic, is it just about that? Am i not getting something? If someone could enlighten me, that'd be great Regards
if you want make an ad network , you can use ad server if you want use an ad network for your website ,you can use ad network Good luck ♥
ad server it's were ads are hosted and served, so every ad network needs an ad server to host customer ads
I think you are missing an element in your logic; Exchanges. Ad servers simply host and serve the ads / ad codes, as A. G mentioned. If you are a publisher, you can absolutely get an ad server, though unless you are geo-targeting campaigns or have house ads that you want to show, it may not be that beneficial for you. If you are selling ad space directly on your site to advertisers, you would definitely benefit from having an ad server to serve them. However, ad servers themselves do not actually come with ads to serve. You need to get the ads, or get the ads from an ad network or exchange. An exchange is like a super-massive ad network where companies bid on impressions. Most networks that people deal with are "Tier 2 Networks". A tier 2 network is a network that sells a small amount of traffic directly to advertisers/companies, and sends the rest to an exchange. I think what you meant by your question is, "why doesn't everyone use exchanges instead of ad networks?" The answer is because exchanges have huge and strict requirements to gain access. In order for a single website to sign up for an exchange, you would need about half a billion impressions each month, as well as programming/coding skills and knowledge of how exchanges work. Because most sites don't have their own dedicated software engineers to write and rework API's, its better for them to work through an ad network that does. Its a lot like the concept of a super market. It would be silly for a single household to purchase milk from a mass-producer. However, it makes sense for a super market to purchase large amounts of milk, and then resell it to individual households. If you tried to purchase milk from the mass-producer, you'd have to know how to put in orders, have the correct documents, and you would need to purchase a whole lot of milk. The amount of work you would have to put in to buy milk from a mass producer would be crazy for a single household. The amount of work that a single site would have to do to get into a traffic exchange would be crazy. However, because ad networks deal with hundreds or thousands of websites, its much more cost efficient for them to deal directly with exchanges.
Hello, An Ad Server is a web based tool that is used by advertisers and publishers to help with campaign management, ad management and ad trafficking. On the other hand, An Ad Network is a collection of Web sites which can be purchased through a single sales entity. It could be a group of sites owned by the same publisher or it could be an association of sites sharing a rep firm.
