I'd like to know the difference between the two: 2checkout.com and paypal's shopping carts.

I would like to offer credit cards payment options even to people who don't have paypal, and paypal's merchant services here, state that it is possible with them.

I've heard a lot of good things about 2checkout.com but setting up an account and the initial approval process is a pain and would take some time. I'd love to use only paypal's merchant services if they allow buyers from all around the world.

Anyone using paypal's cc's payment options and selling to people who don't have paypal?

    May someone help with this.

P.S. When using the Paypal "Buy Now" button.. does this require the buyer to open up a paypal account, if he doesn't have one, in order to pay?

I see a "Create Paypal Password" field there.

    Right ..

To make it simple - if your volumes are high, you want to accept credit cards directly (can't do it with paypal) but don't want to open up a merchant account yet then 2CO is your choice.

But you asked for differences so here are the main ones, from the seller's point of view:
+ 2CO lets you accept credit cards, PayPal doesn't. (people need to open an account first)
+ 2CO has sophisticated fraud checks and reporting system, PayPal doesn't.
+ 2CO has customer service, PayPal doesn't. (prove me otherwise, i dare you!)
+ 2CO freezes your account when you break the T&C, and even then they pay you your money. PayPal likes to freeze accounts with no reason and keep your money for 180 days.
    - 2CO is more expensive ($50 to start + 5.5% compared to PayPal's 3.X%)
    - 2CO requires you to be A LOT more professional, i.e. your website needs to have proper T&C, Privacy Policy, full details of what you're selling etc.
    - 2CO allows you to sell through EXACTLY ONE WEBSITE per account. You can always open as many accounts as you want to but each will cost $50.
    - 2CO takes some time to initially review your site before they approve it and let you start accepting payments.
    - 2CO has rather strict regulations on what can and cannot be sold. Good thing is that while 2CO tells you exactly what they like / don't like, PayPal tells you f all and just closes your account if they don't like what you're doing.

All in all, do your small business via PayPal but move away as soon as the business grows. I voted off PayPal from the moment I started exceeding the 1k per week mark. They're simply too unreliable and too much of a risk for a business.

    Hope it helped,
    Bryan
