Looks like sites in the finance and investments niche including stock markets, real estate, mutual funds, loans, credit cards, forex, insurance and so on are taking a huge hit.

Of course it does. If Google's advertisers pay less, or stop spending, that will follow its way down to us. And who knows, with lower earnings from Adsense Google may be compelled to take a larger slice of the pie.

I have several sites that have been affected ... but most are the same. Finance related niche sites seem to be down.

We're affected too, but Google seems managing it greatly so internet businesses (affiliates, adsense, adwords, ect.) will stand strong, they are just supporting the advertisers now with lower rates so they can continue their business out of their tight budget...

The financial crisis might have lead companies to spend less on advertising...

I have a portfolio of several hundred domains and several dozen websites. What I will share with you is the aggregate performance of all of the above. Here's what I have seen going back to August:

1.) ECPMs have been drifting down. This seems to be brought on by a combination of slightly declining click rates and CPC rates.

2.) It looks like click rates have dropped by about 5% - 6%. CPC rates dropped about 6% - 10%. When taken together, both are negatively impacting ECPMs.

3.) In addition, I have noticed a couple of other oddities that I can only associate with restricted advertising budgets. These include CPC rate drops toward the end of the day and the end of the month.

On the positive side, because online advertising is a very acocuntable media, I anticipate large advertisers will shift more of their budgets beginning next year as their annual/quarterly offline media contracts come up for renewal. Hopefully, this insight helps.
