I wonder! I bought an item on Ebay for $600 and I payed using PayPal (the first time I used it) and now the payment says 'Complete' in my account and 'Paid' in the seller's account. However - no money has as of yet been taken off my banking account. I do not have a creditcard or anything attached to PayPal, just my banking account (I live in Holland). So, basically, if the payment says 'Completed' and the other guy has gotten his money, I just empty my bank account now and PayPal cannot withdraw anything from it and we both win..? (Probably not. But please explain what's going on here )
well only explanation i an give is if you didn't have the money in your account and the seller had to accept your payment in order to receive it. Maybe the same for country he might have to accept it if your in holland, or paypal are verifying your account?
inform paypal immediately about this error. or they might freeze your account or slap you with a heavy chargeback. They never accept their faults and you'll be the ultimate sufferer. P.S: the "empty bank account" thing sounds nice, but they may sue you. so take care, and think wisely.
The only possibility is that the transfer has been completed, but the money isn't showing as being debited from your bank account yet. It may take a few days for that to happen. I'm assuming that you've paid with an eCheck. As much as that would be a good thing, PayPal didn't give you free money. Edit: If you plan on emptying your bank account, I hope you have overdraft protection.
Ok, I'll leave it as it is so they can withdraw the money from my account anyway. I am not, however, going to inform them that théy have made a mistake. Understandably
I highly doubt that they've made such a mistake. When did this transaction occur and when was the status marked as complete?
It may take a few days for the payment to transfer from bank to paypal but it will show complete for now. But when the money is unable to be transfered from your bank paypal will -£xxx and it will either go into overdraw in your bank or your account will be limited. You should inform paypal asap.
There is no mistake! The same in Germany. If you add a bank account and verify it and agree they can take money from this bank account if you did a payment then the transfer to the seller will be instant and the status will be shown as completed. And after some days you will also see this charged from your bank account. So everything is fine here. No need to tell them anything about a fault because there is none.
Like they will waste thousands of dollars to sue him just to get $600 back, if what you say would be true they would sue all the limited accounts with negative balance. This is stupidity from PayPal's side so there is no reason to be afraid, if they find it out sooner or later they'll just deduct it from your account as they usually do so things would be back to normal.
Both of you have it wrong. There is no problem. Transfers take a few days to show up and the only problem would happen if the OP clears their bank account thinking they have a "free" $600 and then overdraft.
Well, thing is, I can transfer $600 (which is basically all I have ) to my other bank account and it will be instant (because with online banking in Holland, it is) and then when PayPal tries to get the money from my banking account there won't be anything there, and this banking account of mine is not able to go 'in the red'. If all they can do is block my PayPal account, screw them
The seller still has to accept / process the payment - that's why it shows as 'Complete' but the money is still in your bank account. Once the seller processes the payment the money will no longer show in your bank. If you remove the money from your bank the seller will not be able to process the payment and will therefore not ship you the product you ordered.
Paypal generally provides a timely service, focused on convenience for both buyers and sellers. Whether or not they will fault you and penalize you for deceptive use of their service is not the main concern raised here. What is of concern is your reasoning in considering that Paypal may not find out if you do something that is clearly not right. In hoping to use their site in a way that will benefit you in the future, you should work to make sure that every transaction that you complete with their service is of ethical, and mutually beneficial.
Please, give us an update in the next few days on your smart idea. Sorry, but I'm sure that it's going to backfire.
I have arrived at a point where I would be willing to sacrifice future use of PayPal for $600. Question is whether they can do anything about it, isn't it?
