Did Panda/Penguin kill off most SEO?

Obviously you still need a little bit of SEO, but for the most part is SEO dead? I mean, what boosts rank now other than good content?

No it didn't obviously not only content matters , yes it weights more but you still need good backlinks to boost your websites . So those can be easily achieved with SEO . All you have to do is to be more carefully not do bring too many in too little time .

    Hi TheCause,

This is a good question and the answer is no, SEO is not dead. As with any update, you will want to see how your site ranks now in comparison to how it ranked before. It is essential to maintain Internet best practices in order to rank properly as well. In addition, if you had any content flagged as low quality content and removed it, make sure that you replace it with higher quality content and Best_services is right that quality backlinks are also necessary for effective SEO after Panda/Penguin.

This article does a good job of explaining what is necessary after the Panda update:

    Here is another helpful piece:

    Hope this helps,

Totally agree with you guys. It didn't kill SEO. It just eliminated those bad quality sites that shouldn't really rank high in Google's SERP.

Panda updates are good for SEO as they push the low quality websites to the bottom.

Google's main objective was to go after blackhat sites. Was there some good sites that were affected and they shouldn't have been? Yeah, but if you practiced whitehat SEO than you shouldn't have anything to worry about... There is a problem though with Google going so hard after 'shady' backlink neighborhoods... It creates an atmosphere where Negative SEO is prevalent. Let's hope that won't be the case.

It will the case. They are trying find an algorithm which doesn't rely on backlinks. Because backlinks have been abused like meta tags even much more than meta tags.
I think that they are not able to catch unnatural backlinks correctly and easily as before.

Panda kills spammers. If your website is authentic with unique content then you have no problem.

So tired of seeing good backlinks because certain sites just don't attract great or good or even mediocre backlinks. My site for example... a television site.
I have good traffic, good enough I should say, but not that many quality backlinks.
