Did my SEO developer in India do a good job?

I just finished my 3 month term around a month ago with my SEO guy I hired from India, and the results I got out of it was less than what I expected. At first, I was around rank 9 or 10 in my most popular keyword, and now, I am around rank 7 in the same keyword. It is not too much of a difference, and it has been around 4-5 months since I first hired him. I was expecting more of being in the top 3 positions for my shortlisted 15 keywords.

SEO Tasks that he did was:

    On Page Optimization:
    Creating Content (keyword density)
Meta Tags, Sitemap, H1 header, etc.
    Keyword Target Pages
Website Analysis (Load time, alt tags)

    Off Page Optimization:
One Way Inbound links (150 Links, many which are PR0 and PR1)
    Manual Submission to Search Engines
    Directory Submission (30)
Article Creation and Submission (2 Articles, 10 directories)
    Video Creation and Submission (1)
    DMOZ Directory

I paid $1,000 for the services above.

    1. Should I pursue my SEO with him, knowing that every month he can bring me 40 inbound links for $150 a month, and will that bring my ranking to a higher position? I would still want to target being in the top5 in my major keywords.

    2. I have another website that is very similar to the site that was just optimized, more like a site offering the exact same products, but just a different design of the website. Should I have that site optimized as well? FYI, both of the sites are under the same webhost, if that should matter.

    Thanks in advance to everyone!

Well, I would have expected a bit better improvement to be fair.

The backlinks, how relevant are they? I would have expected pr2+ links min. - and relevant

Articles, how well optimised were they, and did people like and syndicate them much?

directory subs, I would have pushed for that amount per month ;-)

It is not a dead loss or anything, he has done some basic background work, but for $1k... outsourced to India, I would expect a bit more.

Depends how long he spent on the On Page work I guess...

You can buy your own links from sites like TeliAd, Text-Link-Ads.com, Linkworth, etc. You can also use social bookmark blaster software and submit RSS feeds which your guy does not seem to have done

PR0 and PR1 backlinks are not at all difficult to get. I think you can get them if you do self SEO. As you have hired someone else, it would be good if you get good quality relevant back links.

Bathon is right - your competitors also use SEO so you should actually be greatfull about the improvement you got.
People always want more then they got, but it costs a lot of money!

Do the inbound links have anything to do with your niche? Or are they totally random and pr0/1, and are they dofollow?
The on-page optimization looks pretty good, but got my doubts about the off-page opt.

Page rank is always going to fluctuate especially for very competitive keywords.

$1,000 seems pretty steep, but then again, we don't know your URL or your target keywords.

And whoever suggested using text-link-ads in an SEO campaign is an ABSOLUTE MORON! Google hands-down does not like paid link placements, text-link-ads included. Have you ever noticed that they don't even rank for "text-link-ads"?

    40 0-1PR inbound links for $150?

Also I think if you have a site that has a lot competition $1000 is not going to do it for you to even hit the 5 to 3 spot.

To be fair I won't say they did a bad job but you may want to read up on what you are paying for and the techniques used for the results you want to achieve.

You should google link building and directory submissions. You will find many companies that will build you MUCH more links [with better PR] for less money.

    Hey,
I can't comment on your ranking without knowing the keyword(s).
The On-Page Optimization he seems to have done is okay. But when it comes to the Off-Page Optimization, I would really advice you to sack him. It will have almost none effect on your ranking. And that isn't really fair considering what you have paid for this service...

The fact that he did search engine submissions concerns me, there is no need for those - with backlinks all the engines will pick up your site. Also 30 directory submissions is pretty meaningless unless it was done to premium directories like business.com, yahoo and ones like that.

$1,000 for that work seems about par for a good SEO firm, but if your site is in English I would have looked for an SEO that is fluent in English as a first language.

What is your site's url so that we can see what they did. $1,000US could be excessive for a bad job but a great bargin for a good job.

PM me with the url and keywords and we can see very quickly.

$1000 for something that could be done in 1 day (and it's completely lame and useless by the way) is a joke. Hire someone else.

You could have done organic SEO rather than pay a huge amount. Just a suggestion.

It completely depends on your competition for those keywords. I would say he should have been able to get you to about 4 or 5 position for your top few keywords in that time with little effort.

But without knowing your niche its really impossible to tell.
Pm me or go to a new site im on and friend me freebusinesssources. Ill help you for free for a couple months and get you to the top. As long as I can use you as a case study or you help me with something else.
