I saw a domain I wanted last year, and the owner said he wanted $100 for it. Then he decided not to even sell it after all. He never did continue developing it, so I put it on my calendar, and sure enough, he let it expire. I could have picked it up in GoDaddy auctions after it expired for $19.95 but 1) I thought hey I can get it cheaper than GoDaddy after it totally expires. Of course someone else could grab it, but by now I had other domains to worry about anyway so I took the chance. 2) I really wanted to go through the whole process of watching a domain expire and seeing how long it took to become available. I enjoy learning about domains, although I'm a newbie. So - I let it go through the whole expiration thing, and finally it dropped and was available to buy. I bought it very recently...and now I wonder if I should have bought it from the auction and made sure it did not drop, for SEO or value purposes? If you're curious, the domain is escapecubicle.com.
