I registered realestatedir.org a few days ago... I was thrilled to find what I thought was a good keyword domain so I registered it immediately. After starting a directory on the domain and getting a few backlinks, I searched google to see if the directory was indexed, anyways I found out that the website has more than 700 backlinks already (some are from sites like linkmarket.net) Do you think that the website was banned from google and is probably worth nothing ?? should I go on promoting it or do you think i'm better off working on another project. p.s. I can't use the wayback machine to see the old website as archive.org is blocked here in dubai.
Hello... Just checked for you and the domain was registerd in 2003 (No content or site) then again in 2007 (no content) then dropped again. As far as i can see the site should be good and just needs indexed thx malcolm
Yes you did, Real Estate or Property sites as their known in UK, are Ten a penny, that means they are knocked out so often - they are cheap and worthless. You will not make any money with this idea, as the 'Real Estate' businesses don't use directories to advertise, they use Public relations, ad agencies and likely Yahoo. Try another idea that will actually make you money, but directories are dumb basically. Hope this helps.
the only stupid mistake he would make is blindly listening to advice from someone like you when you have nothing constructive to say..ever lots of markets are saturated but it doesnt mean you still cant be successful real estate related firms do advertise in directories so I dont know where you made that up from having those backlinks will certainly not do any harm once you are reindexed the only thing is you cannot be sure that the domain is free from penalty until that happens. for now build some backlinks and you should be able to see the site in the index in the next week or two
danger9918 - I have nothing against you personally. Yes, some DO list in directories, but it ain't to make them rich Pal - but he wasn't asking where to list was he danger9918 snaps up a domain, without even researching where the property industry advertises, and his likely entire basis (he says) for ownership of this domain is - hmmm, gee, I've never seen anyone do that before You know, it's not a good idea to buy domains based on a few links. 700 isn't that many, and the domain isn't memorable, plus, plus - if it was worth anything, the owner wouldn't have given it up that easily. I also believe the domain was bought so he could use the keyword 'Real Estate' - but that strategy will fail too, as he won't get that keyword as it costs too much. Also hasn't it dawned on you guys yet, that the original domain owner had enough of the crappy sounding domain - that he gave it up lol. And some poor newbie picks it up because it's 'cool sounding'. You or he don't know about the massive property sites, specialists and comparison engines ready to rip you to shreads then - yeah figures lol. Not only is it a crappy domain (not completely the buyers fault here), but by the time he gets the million links he'll need to get noticed, noone will care about directories, so it's pointless. And he won't get a ton of sites rushing to point to this thing, but if that's what you guys want to believe, hey, be my guest. Why are you speaking for him, just admit it that you don't like me because I'm better than you. Isn't the reason you and others hang out here is because owning a website is some kind of status symbol, but what status exactly? You sure aren't rich, are very young and immature judging by the way you attack and insult anyone that goes against the mantra here? Successful businessmen need to be open-minded and friendly - and you're none of those. Think about it. Why is the seo way, the only way - it's not! I don't understand why being a webmaster is so cool, unless it's membership of a boys club maybe, but that's not exactly exclusive now is it, when thousands of others are frantically building websites that are in direct competition, making your job even more impossible than it is already. Yep, it's some club alright swedal Don't need to be an expert in property, I'm just good at thinking of website ideas - always have been. I like passing on my knowledge. I studied the web for years, studied a few business subjects at college (including Marketing), so yes I suppose I could be an expert compared to many on here. But chasing me about on here won't get you my help, and doing so will alert the Moderators and draw attention to you.
tbh I cant be arsed breaking your post up and letting you know what I think as I dont think it warrants that much of my time. Thing is you are one of those talkers you can do this do that but do we ever see any of it? course not just talk its a lot easier to rips things others are doing apart rather than offer something worthwhile "Jack of all trades master of none" oh yea and if you are so down on directories remind us again why you hang around the directories forum?
Remember; good cop bad cop. (do you believe it now?) ha! pathetic aint it? anywho, it is just better off to let the uninformed keep spewing their trash across the forums. look at it from my perspective: as long as event_king continues to consistently misinform other directory owners and web masters, it is better for us directory owners & webmasters alike, who actually know what's better and know he's nothing but a hot air balloon.
You can't be asked to break my post up, because you know I'm right - you just can't take it, and resort to dumb bickering - but that won't lessen the damage done or increase your knowledge. Important: Guru Advice! I've wriiten at least 50 posts jam packed with advice on what to do with directories but before you can make money from them - the sad ideas must be scrapped, so unless you get passed that point, there's no point in me telling how to make directories work. Everything works from getting the idea right - and you especially don't get it. I'm afraid my ebook isn't out yet, so you'll have to wait for that. Classified ads site out soon.............. Sorry but I don't sell secret sauce or give access to my websites to be copied by disgruntled webmasters. I deal in what works - because I've done it. You're not ready for my advice yet, go away and mature a few years, then get back to me.
I'll wait for the movie when it's for sale at the local movie store for $.99 It'll more the likely be in the "Comedy" area. Get a life dude.
First, don't listen to the bs above. Put one page up and get the site active (as of 20080821) Then, setup a Google Webmaster Tools Account. Create a XML Sitemap and submit it once via the GWT If Google still like the domain, then they will report it in the GWT as "external links". If Google reports ~500 links still, then you have a gold mine. If Google doesn't like it, then figure out why. Fix it. And then ask for resubmission. Your are the new owner and the old site was thrown away. Just don't make it a Real Estate Link Directory as it was before. Make it a real ~50 web site and see how many of the old links stay with you. In 6 months you will have a great foundation to build something on.
On the technical side I don't have anything to add that catanich hasn't already said in his constructive post. The only other thing I'll say is that real estate/ estate agent websites are the first place I look when looking for property either in the UK or abroad so a real estate website is definitely worth promoting online and making it perform well in searches has got to be a good thing to do.
well lets try something you'll all understand - website proof! As far as I can tell THIS site is the main property resource on the web: http://www.propertyfinder.com/ It's owned by a real, proper entrepreneur. It has 1,232,281 links to it, and for those 2 reasons alone, this realestatedir.org is toast. Unless any of you can prove that realestatedir.org has more links or why it's special, then I'm not listening to you. But you can't, you know you can't, so why bother fighting over a loss cause - it's crazy to think anyone can beat a multi-million pound outfit like propertyfinder.com, with a $30 script, zero content and hardly any links. www.propertyfinder.com/ 1,232,281 www.realestatedir.org 790 And this propertyfinder isn't the only company she owns, I'm telling you she has millions just to play about with. Game over. You guys are not experts, you don't do research before setting up directories, all you guys know is how to copy others and game the search engines - that's not skill as anyone can do that. There are companies spending thousands on SEO alone, millions on advertising/PR, and you actually think you guys will beat them. Oh well.
EK that is the most rediculous arguement I have ever heard and only proves your absolute lack of business knowledge. According to you noone would ever challenge the status quo and start up a new venture or resource. You don't even know the motivation for danger making his site. OMG don't start up a new site or business because you don't have a chance against those big bad established bullies! Why not go tell it to Bill Gates? I am putting you on ignore.
Swedal - You know what I'm saying, so stop being deliberately obtuse in an effort to defend bad website ideas or gain support from cohorts. I'm not saying don't try, I'm saying that copying established ideas is a bad idea for many reasons. You guys don't have one original idea in your heads, and think that SEO or buying link loaded domains is some cutting edge technique. It's really very sad. Really? Smart comments and attacking me again Had you wanted to ignore me Swedal, then you wouldn't of engaged me nor keep chasing me on every thread or post I make. That makes you the instigator here.
lol you have LOST it You dickheads can say what you like, fact is I got in the Newspapers and you scumwads didn't. All your SEO/link building doesn't mean shit in the real world. - EventKing
That supposed to worry me - it's better you quit now before you get banned for bullying. My advice to you is don't attack others and don't get smart by sending dumb comments in the first place. I didn't start on you Discover - you started on me.
