Did I jump the gun with this domain name?

In Canada, one of our political parties is know as the New Democratic Party, or NDP as they are most often referred to. Recently while searching for an NDP forum to post concerns on (there is none on the official NDP website), I was amazed to find that no such forum existed. Therefore, I snatched up www.ndpforum.ca Is it worth my while to advance with this idea or where it is a political site idea, do they fare very well? Interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

    i'm a canadian eh. ;)

and, i like it. nice domain actually.

if you can get some BUZZ going; using some social marketing, word of mouth etc. i think you could make a go.

let's face it, nothing gets people "talking" more than politics.

    GOOD LUCK.

p.s. actually, there are probably enough "poli-sci" students in universities across the country to fill-up your forum in no time flat. where else would they be - work? LOL (kidding - kinda)

hahaha sweet burn!! But I shouldn't laugh... I'm Philosophy Major haha

Thanks for the advice though. Honestly, it's a site that I feel could really take off as well mainly because the NDP are getting more and more popular it seems. I mean I typed NDP forum into google in order to try and find one, so I'm sure there are others out there who have as well. So, maybe I'll invest in it a little and get it going.

    Awesome, thanks Mike!

As for the NDP sucking, everyone has their opinions. Obviously they have enough supporters to be a political party, and I firmly believe that the NDP appeals more and more to the youth. Therefore, in a couple of decades I can see the NDP having majority in Parliament. Okay, but enough about actual politics, this isn't the forum for it... so go to ndpforum.ca in a few days or week maybe :p!

Excellent, I'm in the process of starting up a forum with a friend. I'm guessing that this would be the best route to go? Any suggestions for development?

Because of the nature of the topic and the fact you've said there aren't any other forums out there then this would be a great way to go.

I think you've pounced on a good idea. A lot of people want to have a say with regard to politics, and there are constant new policies to discuss.

As always with a new site, the challenge is attracting a critical mass of users. Nobody wants to spend time at a forum with 12 users. So it's the old chicken and egg problem.

If you could partner with that political party to promote the site I think that would be ideal (they already communicate with your target user group, a link in their publications would give the site a push).

Or if you decide not to build the forum, they might buy the domain from you.

    Good luck.

I thought about this, however, what would be stopping them from then creating lets say www.ndp.ca/forum or something of that manner. Therefore, should I develop it first and then contact them? I'm not going for greed here, however, I just don't want there to be a large potential only to get screwed over. I'm willing to put in the time and effort in order to make this worth whatever it would be worth to justify the potential selling probability.

they won't care (or see the VALUE in the domain alone)...

however, they may be interested in a BUSY FORUM with lots of members and discussions around the NDP and politics in general. :)

    IMHO.
