If somebody is dropped from higher rank then somebody must have replaced the rank.

Net Result = No clear conclusion from this thread :)

What if you are dropped from ALL your keywords at once (with no changes done at all recently that might trigger this)? Would you consider my scenario then?

I've never seen anyone complain if they are dropped from 1st page to 2nd page, that is competition, but 1st page to 200th page is not the same, this is definetly a problem! :(

Maybe Google is testing new algorithm with yahoo changing its leadership to yang.. Who knows. This kind of update usually drive SEO gurus nuts.

You know I really think it is a datacenter issue or something with the new algorithm update. Also Monday was a hot day, could it be that the datacenters the person wrote about above went down due to power failures?

Actually Yahoo has said it might completely stop using their own results, and use only Google results, and do some sort of ad sharing of profit at 80%. Yahoo said they will be focusing outside of search, I guess they are waving the white flag when it comes to search :(

How do you check the data centers?

My site dropped from 6th to 28th.

I'm hoping it's not a penalty, as I tweaked my content in an effort to rank higher the other day.

I believe this may of triggered a 'he's trying to manipulate his ranking' filter, but I'm hoping not.

Please let this be temporary. Please.

Seems like Google may be getting ready for an update. Sometimes they purge the databses from different datacenters in preparation for a big update.

I lost a few sites myself...

A couple of my sites have jumped. They went from not being on Google's radar, to the first, second and third page for some great keywords. :D

If you check the times, the yesterday in question was in fact yesterday's yesterday. So, how were your results two days ago?

My theory is datacenter downtime as I explained earlier in a post, and I'm sticking to it! :p

Google started an update in March '07. It's calmed down a lot but weird things are still happening. Many people at webmasterworld were going crazy. It's starts here webmasterworld.com/google/3269317.htm and trails through april

Come on, do you truly believe that this billion dollar companies data centers are so fragile that a hot day makes a difference?

They have more backup power and cooling than a small city. And enough people and software working them, and back up servers all over the world to move the planet off of it's axis.

I can't believe you said "Monday was a hot day".:p
No offense, but just think about that for a second.
It would take a national catastrophic power failure to affect the internet, and even then it would just put a strain on over seas servers, after about 10 hours of no power.

Then we may have something scary, and the least of your worries will be your website.

I actually have seen a 40% increase in traffic from Google...I think it is due to my adapting to the longtail of search through HitTail so I do not have as many major keywords to worry about, instead I have over 300 niche keywords, so if one loses rankings, everything does not come crashing down on me ;)
