Ah the law of limited supply - it just makes us want it more! ...this probably wasn't done on purpose in this case but just to make sure it didn't crash a server somewhere.

    Nice post BTW :)

Dont think in the beginning they did any sort of formal marketing. Definitely spread rapidly by work of mouth through colleges, ect.

    Not true. I was there.

There was no formal marketing at harvard. I can't say anything about what happened after Harvard.

No, it was solving a problem so large there were editorials written about it in the school newspaper. Zuckerberg isn't a genius, but he was smart, lazy, and lucky.

so with all those hundreds of millions that he got from the investors, what did he do with it? Did he spend it on making the site better? or promoting it? & where would such a site like that advertise?
    Thanks, SP360

they got lucky. there were other sites that approached the same methods...but of course you dont hear about em because they are dead. we have to be carefuly when we are examining winners because the entire world is biased towards winners. we see the traits, or the techniques that they employ and automatically link it to road to success. im afraid its not that easy, because out there lies graveyard of ambitious dreams, those who had the at the least similiar or even better techniques and traits.

zuckerman stole the code, then he went to silicon valley and got lot of funding. i got nothing against facebook because hey it works. but im bearish towards social networking because they were a huge hit in Korea and in asia and we slowly see it cooling off after 6 years of near craze traffic and revenues.

the way facebook initially behaves when you first register an account is this: it spams you noncessantly.

of course the following is not an accurate depiction but pretty close .

your friend is taking a shit, they will email you and let you know.
your friend loses virginity, they will email you whos saying what.

pretty soon you start updating status of yourself like "im so bored in lecture, and i have a boner"

they let you know on every intricate details of your other friends. ....now you GOT to know who is doing what. even at the crapper.....
