Dhtml?

    Hey,

I was wondering is DHTML worth learning. I'm looking around for new coding languages to learn. I know css and xhtml. I don't know if I should bother with DHTML or just get into javascript instead. Some of the stuff you can do with DHTML looks pretty cool. So should I just reference tutorials when I need something or should I take the time to actually learn it?

DHTML is not an actual language; it's just a fancy phrase. Dynamic HTML is the use of any mixture of HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create anything that is dynamic. So, if you know HTML, CSS and JavaScript, then you know DHTML.

AJAX would be the better skill set to learn - although it's not supported that well on some browsers (IE and FF are good)

Same goes for AJAX. If you know HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, then you know all the languages necessary to do AJAX (in a browser). You'll then need to learn a server language to handle the other side of AJAX.

When something have been given a 'buzzword' to describe technologies, it's much easier for that product to be marketed and become widespread - every top company realises this. Saying, use javascript and xml http requests to make interactive applications, would never create enthusiasm in the general market.

As far as web2.0 - well that's a buzz word I don't particularly like, but it brings in extra business.

It's not the "Ajax" buzz word that spead it. It's google using it for maps and such...

A buzzword never spreads itself, there has to be a platform. Buzzwords allow a range of ideas to be marketed effectively.
