yup, this is an India tradition which is practiced on the occasion of Janmashtami ( birthday of Lord KRISHNA)..
Its really a big festival in India.Where all enjoys this festival with full of joy and happiness. Happy Janamashtami to all of you.
Men form Pyramids and climb on each other till the top. A pot filled with curd is broken. This is a great festivals.
Don't you feel it should comes in Politics & Religion forum? A while ago when i started a thread (Ramadan Kareem) in general section mod have moved it to Politics & Religion forum by giving a warning 'its on a wrong section'. Its an festival which Hindus use to celebrate in a memory of their God birthday (Lord Krishna). A bag of Curd was tied in a rope around 60 to 100 feet from ground and people try to break it without using any ladder. A group of directors have recently came to Mumbai, India from Hollywood to shoot a documentary on Dahi Handi.
may be this is how gymnastics started anyhow I am also from India, but in my area I hardly have come across such an event. I have seen them 1000's of times in movies and tv shows though
It's not stupid but a fun game (played for huge cash prizes and other rewards) which manifested into its present form god knows how. (The Handi is broken with a long pole in southern parts of India.) Also, if you thought there is something religious about breaking the dahi handi, no, there isn't. There is no mention of this or any form of this in any Hindu religious scripture (not including the epics and mythologies). So it can't be a stupid Hindu thing
I had an impression for you following your posts and comments till now and was amusing at your knowledge base. You must be living out of this world or in hibernation to not know about the countless games that are played half clad in this world and a few of them are played in Olympics.
