........Devoutly religious, he was nicknamed "The Pope" for his saintly aura and gave few clues in his youth that he would turn radical, friends and family said. "In all the time I taught him we never had cross words," said Michael Rimmer, a Briton who taught history at the British International School in Lome, Togo. "Somewhere along the line he must have met some sort of fanatics, and they must have turned his mind." Abdulmutallab has been charged with trying to destroy a Northwest flight on Christmas Day with 278 passengers and 11 crew members on board. The detonator on his explosive apparently malfunctioned and he was subdued by other passengers...Basiru Sani Hamza, 35, said Abdulmutallab was a "very religious" and a "very obedient" to his parents as a boy in the well-to-do banking family...... He always did the bare minimum of work and would just show up to classes. When we were studying, he always would go off to pray. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/airliner_attack_profile Devoted and Very Religios Moslems! That's where the real terrorist actions come from.... Had that guy grew up with Christian values he would be free and probably working for Red Cross to help his people in Africa, but now he faces long jail time. (May be his fathers action to notify FBI might help him a little bit, but only if he really change.)
It's about time "faith" stopped being a virtue and became something to be suspicious of. How many stories do we have to read about people of "faith" committing utterly disgusting acts directly because of their "faith" before people stop assuming it's a good thing to have? "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion." - Steven Weinberg
One of these days the US is just gonna get tired of all this shit and you know what's gonna happen And religion needs to be governed. And WTF? Black guys are suicide bombers now?
~ Existing religions need to recognize their texts are incomplete - memorizing flawed beliefs than seeking perfection is what creates the need for religion and the cure from laziness is getting off your ass and working for real beliefs than accepting what is incomplete.
Religions need to recognize? Are we referring to the members of these religions, the sects of these religions, or the religion as a whole? Texts Incomplete? I could give the Harry Potter series to these nutjobs, have them declared holy writings, and the people in charge could twist the words to mean whatever they like. Of course it doesn't help much when the writings actually state the unbelievers need to be killed.
~ Rather than single out the Muslim religion and that particular individual as the thread refers it is true of all the divinity based religions that for some reason they have become stagnant than continue to reach the levels necessary to appease the God they are pursuing.....When the God returns to give judgment is when the parishioners will know they have reached the end and not before. ~ Certainly seems the case than finding what truly exist that would work but requires seeing life differently than through self congratulatory comforts.
