Developing a Preview Section

I am managing two work websites

www.australian-racing.net.au (The main website that recieves the most traffic)

www.atrec.com.au (A second website which acts like a job notice board displaying advertised jobs)

With my main site, I was wanting to devote a section of it to the employment site, kind of like how RSS feeds work. The section would probably be about 1/3 of the width of the screen, and something similar in length.

The section would be devoted to auomaticaly listing the latest say 5 positions advertised on the employment site. As a new job comes on, the oldest of the 5 drops off.

Is this possible, and how would I go about developing it.

    Cheers

I guess the easiest way would be to create php/cgi script on your main site that would access your secondary site database (probably mysql?) and display the last 5 articles/listings.
However, If I were you I would do something else... Why not creating an RSS feed for your secondary site, and then use it on your primary one via some script to display it. Why? Because others would be able to use your RSS then also. Other sites could implement your RSS feed then, and also some of your site visitors would maybe add it to their RSS readers (yahoo, live, google readers, bloglines, etc.) You could even submit your rss feed to some rss search engines. Though I wouldn't expect much traffic from such sources, they can't hurt. Also, there are some nice free ajax rss tickers that you could use on your primary site then to display your rss. Anyway... just a suggestion :D

i think the easiest solution would be an iframe, but for the more flexible secure approach, you can use a REST or SOAP Webservice API.

in case you need any of this done for you, give me a pm :)

    Thanks for the responses.

I have attached a version of how i visualise it looking.

Basically I will have the logo, which also acts like a link. Underneath that the listings from the external website will be displayed.

Depending on room and difficulty, I am not sure how many jobs will be displayed, but I am thinking that it may be possible to have the jobs scrolling upwards.

Bearing in mind that it will be a scrolling application, and that the data is coming from an external website, how would i do this?

Can i set it up as an RSS feed, or am i better off doing it another way.

    Cheers
