    Hey there !

I have a Very Old DMOZ Listed PR 4 travel domain - that my client wants me to improve.

I have looked into the codes and figured they need a lot of optimization.

    But thats only ONSITE..

Would you please provide me your expert suggestion on how to get this PR 4 site up the ranks ?

You dont have to describe the whole procedure , just , if you can, make a short list and share it with the world - i will return the favor with reputation and respect :)

    Thanks !

Depends what you want. If you just want more PR, all you need to do is get more backlinks. If you are trying to rank for specific keywords, you need to look at your competitors & how they rank for the various keywords in your niche. Find some keywords with decent search volume but not alot of competing sites that've optimized for those keywords. Those are the keywords you want to optimize for in your SEO efforts.

You might check the SEO check list in my sig. This has most of the basic onsite things to check when planning a SEO upgrade of a site.

No it doesnt, though they are less valuable than higher pr links. If you can get links with the highest PR u can find/obtain.

The hardest work I find is getting a few targeted, relevant sites to give a quality backlink, but, the pay off is great. You don't need a lot of links to increase PR unless you are getting many crappy links. A few high quality links can pack quite a punch. I suggest doing research, and spending time to get links from good sites.

No, a link is a link!

But the stronger those links are the strong your page will be!

PR3 and PR4 links will still help pr4 sites. Try to get on blogrolls of travel blogs. That should help quite a bit.
I have a pr4 travel site that may be able to help your link development efforts in a way that benefits both of us. PM me if you wish.

Higher PR backlinks have more weight, but the lower ones still count, it just takes more of them to have the same impact.

Never turn down a backlink, although I would certainly be more focused on trying to get higher PR ones if at all possible.
