    Hello people...

I am a PHP programmer and i'm currently developing a portal for freelancers and web designers/developers.
But i wanted to know, how do i attract people to it?
I mean initially it will have no job offers for freelancers as well as no templates/designes for buyers, so how do i attract new members?

    Please suggest...
    Regards,
    Sunny Kumar Gupta

the website can be found here: http://www.vircafe.com (Vircafe stands for Virtual Cafeteria)
(P.S. i am also looking for moderators and sub-moderators for that website)

If you PM me your exact plans with this site I am interested in working with this. Currently I would say the site is a bit 'off'; you are trying to attract professionals so don't (my opinion) go with the marketing crap 'the registrations are filing in fast' with 2 cm above it '4 Registered Users and counting...'.

You won't get any/much users with that as you are a starter and should, as a max have, 'the registrations are filling in fast' but then show no-one how much you have OR go fast.

    Thx for your feedback...
    Details noted...

Actually i plan to make a website where people post their templates, designs, ideas OR people submit their requirements for the same...
and the opposite party can bid on them...

I do not intend to charge a fee to them. The service would be totally free for standard use.

However premium membership can also be availed where you get highlighted etc...

Still under development so a lot more features can be added.

    Regards,
    Sunny Kumar Gupta

    Hey,
I'd probably say forum marketing, find a freelance forum (or a few) that don't have a rule against promoting your own site, of course there is still the chance that no-one will remain there after seeing there is nothing of offer, but it's worth a go.

I may be interested in being a mod or sub-mod once you're finished so hold onto my name if you'd like. I intend to be working freelance full-time (or at least 10 hours a week if I have a job) by the end of 2009 so I will probably be on your site a lot (I don't like the big ones, everything is bid down to next to nothing).

    Good luck!

    Scoty

Right... so i have your name noted... [IMG]. Please tell me your skills so that i know a bit about my team member. (you will be awarded premium status once i know that you are genuinely interested in the website...)
Also could you do me a favour....?
While i code the site, if i ask you for some data can you get it for me? (It wont be any huge database or something, or an e-mailing list)
I just want a list of category topics and such...
Looking forward to having a great partnership with you.

    Warm Regards,

Hi, I don't know how to market your site, but I might be interested for such a site in the future.
What would be the costs for such a site and also an offer for maintenance please.

I will not read this forum everyday, but check in weekly or so, so don't panic when I don't react immediatly.

Hope to hear from you soon.

You could partner with a forum and have a support thread added for your site. I return you will offer advertising on your site for the forum.

I did this and got good members in doing so for my own freelance site a while back.

Yes, this I understand. How can I help you otherwise?
My skills are setting up and running businesses, marketing & sales and motivating people.

For getting attention for your site, you have to position it very well. Here are some things to look for:
seth godin; the purple cow (I can't give you links yet)
Jack Trout and Al Reis about Positioning.

I know this is a quite general, but here it starts ;)

    much success, jos
