I recently started a link campaign for a very popular car magazine. I have been running into road blocks when purchasing links. It appears that a site called thecrimson.com which is a publication by harvad is considered a devalued link. My problem is that it would have helped to know this before I negotiated prices with this place. I'm looking a list or some kind of search to see if a link has been devalued in the SE's... PLEASE WEB GURUS!!!!!! I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
who "considers" it a devalued link ? actually I don't know of ANY place where you could read about such "devaluations", but it might just be a good idea to start such a site... as soon as you have a "real" measurable criteria for "devaluation"
How could some one find that a site has no value and the other has! If this happens then, that would be a great help...but it would give a lot of pain to the webmasters though! Manish
Only google knows whether the sites outbound links are devalued. However if there are loads of outbound links and little content on the page then its clear that it won't help very much.
If you are putting the link up on a relevant page that could result in foot traffic then it will still have value. Perhaps not for SERP's, but a high rankin the SE is just for traffic anyways, no?
The only people who would know if a link is devalued is Google, and they're not talking. I have heard that a lot of sites that have been selling links through Text-Links-Ads have been devalued, but no one knows for sure.
A good measure I use is to check other text ads on the pages. If the sites that advertise there don't rank in the top 30 for their word, I take it as a good indicator that the link has been devalued. I think many sites, such as school publications, major media sites, etc have been devalued since they sell thru a common broker. There used to be a flower site that was top 3 for flower delivery or something that ran text ads everywhere. I don't see them in the top 10 anymore, so I think many of the sites they put ads on have been devalued.
