Is it just me or have i noticed that a lot of directories inner pages have been devalued to lower pr or no pr in the last update? It sad that many of the sites I submitted to pr pages or 2-3 are now 0-1.

Yes, that is the visualization, but I have to argue the term "devalued". Just because there is less green showing does not mean the site is any less valuable than it was before. This is simply a matter of protocols created at a whim to reflect or inflict the views of one. Just my opinion.

IMO, thats true. I think G is devaluing directories, especially those that might be copies of other directories and have no uniqueness.

Several websites lost PR in the recent PR update. This could mean that youll now require more links for an improved PR maybe.

I can't argue something that has actually happened ... devaluation. Devaluation I see it is from a monetary angle. Regardless there are a lot of ticked off webmasters that sell directory links that in the majority that would argue against your opinion.

Also as a marketer who sells many products online I could not care less about PR. PR is not the holy grail of sales on google but doing recent searches on diectories especially inner pages and the fact that I am getting much less traffic from these directories indicates that the directory is no longer as important as it was for aquiring traffic and I don't see this as a seasonal trend.

It depends on the directory. My inner pages went up. I think it's directly related to the content on the page in question. All my content is unique, I rewrite submitted descriptions (just a little) to make them unique and I make sure there are sites in every category even if I have to go out and find them myself, which I do all the time. It pays off.

So go submit to my directory, the value is increasing. Go ahead, do it now! j/k LOL :D

Oh I have no doubt that there are a few directories that will do well. I am just talking about diectories as a whole.

I don't think it's limited to directories, and I think Google gives more value to links from pages with more than just internal inbound links. With v7n we've been putting more focus into building links to the category pages.

That is exactly the answer I was seeking for not paying for a directory link. Anyone?

Yes i agree with doing that to try and stop any inside pages from being de-cached or the grey bar effect taking over...

This very well may be the filter or way they will try to block the PR thats passed from sitewide links ...
In other words the pages that are less relevant in any website that dont have any links pointing to
them (from other sites) could be easily devalued as no one ever knows about them technically ...
and could esily be used as a PR booster from sitewides so why not just de-index or de cache them...
www.epitrope.com seems to have been effected from this filter as well as www.dirdir.info

So i could only suggest trying to deep link those inner catagories in an effort to maintain and or stop from being
de-cached by google and breaking free from any NEW filters that they may have created in an effort to curve sitewide abuse.

this is just a thought NOT FACT and Merely Speculation

    thx

There are likely to be a host of more likely reasons for the PR of any page on any directory or website to drop.

Google devaluation is not one of them IMHO.

If google where to devalue, there would be NO VISIBLE TBPR change, they have said that the page would simply not pass on its PR, it would not lose its own PR for this reason.

As for , loss of PR , read on below

What I am saying is that climbing the PR pole is indeed like climbing a greasy pole,

Even as you add or attract more links, you might well be loosing links just as fast, as various factors converge to remove links from SE indexes, the same processes that include links for you , also remove links,

The SEs, probably have a limit to the number of pages they can handle properly, ergo as some pages come in others depart, you links along with them,

This probably has les impact on pages at lower PR levels, but a very high pr page with say 200,000 links directly or indirectly feeding its power, could probably loose 1,000 links in a fraction of time during the search engine shuffle, yet the same page could gain 1,100 or 700, might be the diff between TBPR7 an TBPR6

just an exercise in guess work :)
