How do you work out how much money your directory is worth? If you wanted to sell a directory how do you go about it? I've seen some online website valuation tools that check your links, pages, search engine positions etc and gives some wild valuations, but you put a real financial value your site? I'd imagine your returns from ad's, paid links etc, search engine positions, page rank, links etc all count but how do you value it? Any advice on selling appreciated?
A good place to try to sell your site is at sitepoint.com. They have an excellent system up and running and people are always selling websites on there, some very large and highly valued. Alot of people also have luck with Ebay, but everything I have ever seen on there has been complete junk. A good rule of thumb is to take the revenue that the site is generating now per month, and multiply that by 8-10 months. After that you may want to apply a 'potential bump' in either direction of 10-50%. That means if your site pulls in 100 dollars a month, and you multiply it by 10, thats 1000 dollars. Factor in that a potential buyer looks at the site and believes they can increase the revenue somewhat, so add at 20% bump to that, the site is then worth 1200 dollars. Directories are very out of fashion nowadays, but if its bringing in steady revenue i'm sure you could sell it. Good Luck!
i think it is like stock market, a premium multiplied by earning per share. Here it is premium multiplied by earnings per month and other things may also be taken into consideration.
