Hi guys, im not majorly into coding yet but one thing i dont understand is when ppl say that automated submissions to large numbers of directories is bad.

i mean, suppose you had a moderately intelligent bot/script which auto submitted to directories, bypassed the captcha etc how would a directory owner know it was a bot and not a human?

is it somehow possible to figure out looking at logs etc?

Easily. Any of these things tends to give it away: wrong category, subdomains or subpages when they are not allowed, an inappropriate website for a niche directory, any violations of the submission guidelines (which can vary a lot between directories), keyword lists in the wrong place (such as the description field). The list goes on.

The vast majority of auto submissions look moronic when compared with the actual guidelines and requirements of a specific directory.

Agreed. Even though these days a lot of directories are using the same base script (or one of several base scripts), that doesn't mean the directories have the same categories, qualifications or submission guidelines. It's pretty easy to spot the submissions that obviously were not posted by a human with a brain.

haha, thats prety much what i was after, so im guessing there is no physically tracable trait (from logs etc) rather just the fact that certain submissions stand out as bot-ish

    thanks guys

    Exactly^ i believe...

I use form fillers & i get no rejected submissions, because although it's automated i do check before submitting that the correct fields are indeed filled & that the correct category was choosen by my form filler that is the main thing a correct submission...
