Well, Desktop is good for working in office for doing heavy duty work.... laptop is good for carrying and doing simple tasks.....
I have a gaming laptop, but don't really take it about anywhere. It's just nice to have the option of being able to move it around easily if I need to. Normally I keep it on my desk hooked up to a monitor and external mouse and keyboard.
It depends on what you need, but most of the time we need both type of computer to work with. Laptop if your not at home and desktop once you are at home.
For me... i choose them both.... because they have the same power and ability to run commands and programs. like Java Application Programs and Visual basic Run-time Commands...but the difference of the two ..... is: Desktop: it can only be used by your own home and it is difficult to transfer from another place. While... Laptop: it can be used to anyplace and to anywhere what you want to do soo. aNd you can also used while are travelling...

I think unless you are travelling and need it for work then a desktop is the way to go - I usually find after more than an hour or so on the laptop at home I start really wishing I was on a desktop instead!
