Desktop Search – Great Tool

I never thought I needed any desktop search capability. I keep my computer files extremely well organized. Yet, there are times when I couldn’t remember whether the info I needed was in an email, a saved web page, or a document someone had sent. So, I thought I’d see what Google’s desktop search was all about. I’m glad I did.

Now when I need something I click the icon, and in less than a second, Google is showing me all references to the search terms, including those in Outlook. I was amazed. It will even display the full contents of an email in html view, or with one more click, it will launch Outlook. When clicking a Word document, it opens Word and loads the doc.

    It’s definitely worth trying. I think I'm addicted. :)

I was kinda worried it would take a lot of my computers speed to have it installed, but its damn easy, damn fast... and I am already less organised because I never go to any folder anymore, only use desktop search ;)

The search has helped me find stuff I never even knew I still had. Things that the damn WinSearch wouldn't find.. lol

Grrrrrrrr.... Now I am wondering if I gave it a fair chance. I installed it, and two days later uninstalled it.

I seem to be the only one that wasn't in the least bit impressed. (And, this is coming from someone with the Google toolbar, the Google deskbar, and GMail.)

desktop search, in my opinion, is their best creation short of google itself.

Give it a chance to log some IM convos, recently used documents, and freshly downloaded files... (but then again, you might be able to keep track of your computer- I lose everything all the time.)

Yeh I have to say desktop search is pretty much great, now I dont even bother organizing my files. I just chuck 'em anywhere and then use search to whup 'em up.

It also tells you of files that you have viewed on the web - not good if you're on a shared computer like I am at home. Oh well, you get to find out some pretty interesting stuff.

Some things you wish you hadn't.

I'm a neat freak geek. I empty my recycle bin once a week. I defragment my drives every Monday. I run an antivirus scan every Friday.

But soon after installing Google desktop search, I created a catch-all folder for 'stuff I may need someday but surely won't be able to find'. Now, I dump anything of remote interest in it and leave finding what I want, to GGDS.
